I think I'll put that on ALL my posts from now on!!!!!
Most likely cuz it sez.... "nude NAKED NUDITY"!!!
This piece has the MOST views of anything I have my name connected to here on CAF! Over 7000 hits! WOW!!!
I, FOR SURE, am MUCH better looking that this FREAK of nature!
VERY cool it made "comic art highlight" this week!!! I LUV this cover too! Patrick knocked it OUT of the ballpark with this one! Glad it ended up in your collection, pal!!!
Thanx a BUNCH! it's funny I JUST TODAY found my un-cut sheet of trading cards that includes this card! I had been looking for it, around my house, for a YEAR or more!!! This piece of art had never been inked before my inking of it.
Thanx guys! This IS one of the best covers I worked on with JH! It's SO graphic and the design work is amazing!
This is a REALLY swell page I remember well working on! It was the start of more than a year working on this OUTSTANDING book with JH and Dan. I'm SO happy to see it all reprinted and available in a one graphic novel now!
This is NOT Mick Gray... this is art by Marcus Gray.... no relation! But it is pretty cool!
Hey Eric! Hope you are well! YES! That is zip.... and you are right... I have not used it in about a decade! But Rags seemed to want it on this stuff, so, like a good inker, I used it!
Hi - I got this quote from the man himself, my mentor and pal, Mr. Frank Cirocco... "Done in the early to mid-seventies ('73 - '75) possibly for a fanzine, but I doubt it. I think it was a reject - even in my formative years I tried not to let sub-par work like this get out. Hurts my eyes to look at it, but I suppose we all have to start somewhere..." Hope that helps! Mick Gray
Thanx, Brian! it was a REALLY FUN piece to work on! I really dig TRYING to capture different styles... the only one i did not EVEN get close to nailing was Alex Nino! I could NEVER do his style!
Glad you like it! This was ALWAYS one of my favorite covers! if you are interested in this type of "recreation" art, let me know, I could do a special cover for you!
Thanx, Eric! I really like the way it turned out... some of them work better than others... i think Alex Nino would have handled his demon differently! But what the hell! It still looks pretty swell! And it was a BLAST to ink! Len, hope you like it in person as much as I do!
This page was pencllled by Bob Hall dong a fill-in for JH Williams on this series... I inked it and it was a BIG challenge for me at that time... his pencils were very nice, but kinda rough... I thought some of the pages turned out much better that others after I did my thing. I was not really very confident of my work at the time... looking back this page looks pretty good for a newbie inker!
Thanx for all the kind words about this piece! What you see here I always thought of as "our look" ... the splatter thing was an ongoing effect we use many times over to GREAT success!
Yeah, I LUV this stuff... JH and I were doing some pretty swell work back then... not that we aren't doin' cool stuff today also!
There JUST MIGHT be more inks over Ryan Sook by Mick Gray soon,,, stay tuned!
Ryan REALLY knows contrast!!!! AND storytelling, and emotion, and page layout, and kickin' ASS in the comic field!
A very fun project... I'll work with Ryan again ....ANYTIME he wants me!
The name is Mick and yep, this is anther one of those BIG honors of my career I will NEVER forget!
Oh yeah, Eric! This is my prize possession and the BIGGEST honor of my career!
I was pretty scared to ink this stuff! The pencils were a little rough so my pal and mentor, Frank Cirocco, tightened them up for me before I inked it...that helped make them a little more understandable to me! It was done over 10 years ago and JUST showed up in print in the last couple years!
Yeah... this was a pretty big honor! From what I understand, this was Steve's LAST major company gig! And I was the lucky bastid that got to ink it! MAN I am ONE blessed dude!
Thanx guys! That is a good one... very early in JH and my partnership...Man, we did LOTS of cool art back then!
Hey Sean - Thanx for the kind words! I always LUV'D this piece too! That is pretty cool you own this AND the "X-women piece" too... I have many fond memories of my days inking J.H.
Anyone know whatever happened to Diego? I just LUV'D his pencils! I want to ink him again!
...and it's one of my favorite pieces I've worked on EVER! Thanx, Len!
