This is dope! Prelims are prelims, but a generational artist on a generational run, drawing an image that aligns so closely to the story, with characters together as they've never been, in a nearly finished way...very cool. Thanks for sharing.
Best fight in the series, which has no shortage of dramatic fight set pieces. Chilling moment with Forever looking back on the most vicious Lazarus and the one she used to be closest to.
Super cool piece. Aron has gone on to be a successful fine artist. His early comics work shows some of that artistry. This page more than many, it it's very reminiscent of BWS weapon X pages.
Always loved this page. One of the more prominent X-men launches with Bendis and Stuart hitting a high peak artistically.
The huge image of Beast in a new mutation, plus that great shot of the OG X-men looking like real teenagers from the 60's, and some great Hank McCoy <> modern Beast panel work.
congrats!
Fellow Terminal City fan! Such a good series exemplary of those Vertigo days. Larks artwork is so clean and dynamic here. He really brought the world to life. And the word balloons on the page make for a great sequential storytelling examples.
Unique take indeed. Love the colors on this. Any Quitely Batman is top notch, but this one really stands out.
So glad it found a good home (and made it safely!). It really is a stunner. Congrats!
Jae's short run during this crossover was so memorable. He brought such a style to these issue. Love the middle panel with the multiple figures of Cannonball taking off. That's some artistic chutzpah for an X-men comic.
I really love this style of McNivens. Just a classic image of Elektra. These iconic images are verging on fine art.
Love the blacks on this from the TV constrasted with Jean's telekinesis.
I love how he did Scott and Jean's shirts.
It's one of those designs that look so good with the original illustrator that no one else can quite replicate.
I didn't realize he inked himself on this issue. Makes this page super special, like an auteurs illustration.
Outstanding piece. Masterful artist on X-Men Cover? Can't beat it.
There are two types of people in this world. Those who own a DPS from this issue. And those who do not.
.
Love this! Were the Bachalo pencils recent? Best part about Chris is his ever evolving style and this feels like a brilliant mix of old and new. The Bucky inks certainly make it a special piece.
Thanks for sharing these and welcome to CAF! X-Force was a favorite of mine and your work was a huge part of that. It was a special period of time where each X book had a specific set of characters and unique art styles. To this day, the way you drew Sunspot is etched into my brain as the best rendition. Cool to hear it meant a lot to you, becuase it meant a lot to us fans!
Great top 10 pages. Love this one! This scene and dialogue was so good it was also "borrowed" as the closing for the show True Detective's first season
Never seen this before, love it. Thibert's art perfectly catpures the style of those books at the time (as you mentioned being one of the key artists). This was a calssic x-men line up!
Loved Pollina's quirky style for this book. Also never noticed Xavier had a bust of himself on dispaly in the Mansion. What a power move.
Great page! This was one of the best sequences in the whole series. Getting a cool Milo page from Counterfifth Detective is on my list, but they're quite hard to come by. Congrats!
Great idea. Fraga killed it!
Magnificent Mike. Wow is right. Can't think of a more touchstone work for generations of kids, and how many became lovers of art (probably subconsciously) through that book. Count me in that number.
Great piece. With the style Jusko did on this set (character with limited background), this is actually perfect since the original composition was Bishop stepping through a white energy portal which fills the page. Congrats!
The Shocker alone is worth the price of admission! But probably would choose a new favorite every time I look at it. Is that the Molten Man? Always one of my underrated favorites of spidey's supporting cast/villains. Brilliant score!
Never realized Zuriel was meant to somewhat take Hawkmans place. But your guys comments led me to Wikipedia. Interesting stuff!
When Grant Morrison revived the JLA comic book in 1997, they expanded the roster to include over a dozen heroes. With frequent collaborator Mark Millar, they intended to create a new Hawkman with no links to the old characters. This new Hawkman, an Earth-bound angel of the "Eagle host" named Zauriel, was to be introduced into the JLA with issue #6 (June 1997). Morrison was denied permission to use the name "Hawkman" by DC editorial, which still considered it "radioactive", due to the complex post-Crisis continuity problems with the character.
In the Wizard JLA Special, Morrison made an appeal to the fanbase, "It's a good name and it seems a shame to let it go to waste. We're hoping that fans will figure 'For God's sake, let's just call him Hawkman and get him in the Justice League as Hawkman,' and the editors will relent. We're hoping to start a campaign." DC held firm, and the "Hawkman" name went unused for several more years.
I remember seeing these in progress on his Patreon and knowing we were in for a treat. Every page was so good, but this is the crème de la crème!
This was, by far, my favorite pinup in that issue. I could take or leave Bruce Timm at the time, but turning the page to this made me stop short. The composition and character of each character all masterfully executed. Ever since collecting art I've looked for this, just to see it! Wish I'd been on eBay at the time:) Congrats and thanks for sharing all these amazing pieces.
LOVED this series by you guys. It's responsible for a lot of Fireman drawings filling my middle school math notebooks. The lack of Quesada/Palmiotti Ash originals on CAF is conspicuous. Thanks for sharing!
I really love this sequence, glad you put it together. This is the evolvement of Filpe's art. The vibrancy of the city in panel one, the perspective in panel four 4 and everything about how Spidey moves throughout... he'd kill it on a Spider-Man story someday.
Nice score! Saw this a few hours late. Though no Hulk, it's a memorable issue to me, and really cool example of McFarlane's style. I think any collector swould have been more than happy to own it.
Very cool. The cyclops especially look great due to how stylistic the design is. Instantly recognizable, I'm sure they look great together.
Not any artist can do a great Sugarman. Ian Churchill did a great Sugarman.
These are great Mike. And really have 3 complete fully rendered illustrations of these characters, which may be better than a lot of panel pages. Congrats!
Thanks! Your Planetary TPB cover is a dream piece. Couldn't imagine a better representation of the art or series.
That is awesome to hear. It's such a striking image--beautifully finished!
Great addition Mike. I loved Family Values. Looking back it was maybe Miller's last great work...as evident by hitting all those check marks.
That top panel is everything. Congrats on another great page. You are curating supremes examples from this great series.
Lazarus is an amazing series, and Lark's artwork and world building is a huge part. Not a lot of fully rendered pages, so congratulations on this beautiful early page.
Rain Like Hammers was a return to form for Brandon as an auteur IMO. This spread has everything you'd want out of his work. Congrats!
