I sold one like this for the family, at the Tampa Con around 2014.
Did you get this one in Tampa?
I love these sepia sketches. Like little Leonardo sketches. This one is amazingly detailed to be so small. only a few inchs but looked great blown up to a full page in the published Sketchbook. THis is not the scan we did for the Sketchbook but a quick cellphone pic I took today while going through some things
The DFF show, scheduled for July 27–28 1996 at Market Hall, in Dallas, was cancelled on short notice due to a dispute from the convention center decorator, over the prior year's bill. DFF founder Larry Lankford called a meeting with John Fairless, J. David Spurlock, and James Mayfield, and The Dallas Collectors Con was put together as a substitute event at the Plano Centre with official guests Bernie Wrightson, Bill Sienkiewicz, Howard Cruse, Rob Liefeld, and Kurt Busiek.
I was underbidder on this.
Would love to borrow it for a top quality scan... ;)
Congratulations on the fantastic aquisition. I own the Steranko painted color guide for this. X-Men #50 cover
Very nice page. Congratulations.
re swipping: Dan knew the good stuff and swipped from the best. He used to gift me all kinds of things including a big swipe file that was mostly clippings of Buscema and Al Williamson newspaper strips. I'm working on a book on Dan and have launched an Art of Dan Adkins facebook page in the meantime.
Jack Kirby never touched the cover to Daredevil #5. The cover, boldly announcing the arival of famous illustrator Wally Wood, is pure Wood. Kirby expert Mark Evanier is in full agreement on this fact. You can find more details in our discussions on facebook, on both The Wallace Wood Estate page and the Wally Wood's Daredevil group.
Best regards,

A rare original from one of the greatest comicbooks ever produced. Superb acquisition.
very sweet. I love the hair and structure around the eye! J. David Spurlock Agent of STERANKO
Jim and I have worked together since 1994. He does commissions but traditionally it takes about a year. In all the years we have worked together, until recently, he hasn't done any sketches like this--a fabulous Cap with Steranko's signature noir lighting! He did the first one of these for charity and enjoyed it. I asked him if he could squeeze in some more between his major commissions ($5,000 - $10,000) and we were all thrilled when he said, "Yes!"
This is my absolute favorite! Jim was hesitant to do anything but Fury, Cap, or The Shadow but I pointed out how many times he drew the Hulk for Foom magazine, Marvelmania, in Captain America, Hulk Annual, Foom poster, etc. Well, as you can see, it is so fantastic, I almost kept it for myself :)
Carmine did this when I visited him in Oct 2011. He is likely the most important Spider Woman artist. Did about 30 issues starting with #1 and the official US postage stamp was his. He has had a rough few years. We are very lucky he is still with us
