DescriptionOne of the "special" pieces in my collection. After a nice introduction from Joe M, Jim did this extraordinary commission for me. While many collectors value his Marvel work, I have always most loved his forays into film noir material. In the original, the over-lapping blacks separate nicely, not sure if it can be seen in the scan. And, of course, the usual masterpiece of composition.Social/Sharing |

I agree that Steranko is a superb illustrator of film-noir, but I would go as far as to say that Steranko can excell at any subject he puts a pencil to !!!!
Congratulations on this commission Jim, it is a masterpiece !!!!

Of course, at first, my eye was drawn, almost exclusively, to the dame in distress. After a few seconds, I start to expand my field of vision, taking in the ma ( no, the men), the shutters, the shadows, the clutter and then, toward the end, that perfect little overturned lampshade. It's almost magical how it all works together.

What an excellent commission!!! The ability shown here is comparable to what Steranko did with his NSC Portfolio plate. Congratulations!

This was the cover for a book called "Meth od" by Clifford Meth. Nice of you to post it as it looks much better here than on the book cover!

So much to appreciate in this piece: the drama, the layout, the use of light....timeless!
