DescriptionThis wonderful work was produced by Barry immediately after he left Marvel and embarked on a 'solo' career creating works for his self published Gorblimey Press imprint. Naturally Barry was best known at this time for his groundbreaking work on Conan the Barbarian. His first self published offering was his 'Conan in everything but name' print entitled 'The Sepia Horseman', capitalizing on his marvel work, and it quickly sold out and launched his publishing effort to a promising start. A masterpiece of line work to my eyes, in his very appealing dash-dot inking style that was very short lived yet iconic. Beautifully and naturally posed figure and steed; An important work in the stellar career of one of my favorite creators. My heart was pumping quickly when I closed the deal to make this mine. It is certainly one of the definitive Conan images. I'm very, very happy and excited to own this.Social/Sharing |

Great! Love it! I am always appreciating nicely structured backgrounds. Al Williamson or Alcala spent also a lot of love in their ink-work to the structures of buildings, sky or empty spaces while others left that to the coloring colleagues and concentrated solely on the figures.

This really is a gem. I just don't see this kind of BWS material out there. What's the size on this one Rob? Congrats and GREAT pick up!

Thanks Scott and Steve. It’s slightly larger than 10 x 14”. It sure is hard to find drawings from this period!

This reminds me of his Red Nails (i.e his best work on Conan)
