Description

If its obscure, its in this gallery, or soon will be. And here we have two new arrivals, as a well as a returning champion. I wanted to do a piece featuring some of the lesser-known western characters, and you can't get much lesser-known than these guys. However, at one time each of them headlined their own titles, although they've been in limbo for decades now. They are (from left to right):

Geronimo Jones -- star of his own Charlton comic for 9 issues in the early 1970s.

Cheyenne Kid -- star of his own Charlton comic starting with issue #8 in 1957 and running through issue #99. Why did his run start with issue #8? Hey, ANYBODY can start with an issue #1.

Yang -- In the 1970s, the tv series Kung Fu starring David Carradine was very popular. A thinly-veiled comic version of the show was needed. Enter Yang, star of his own comic for 17 issues.

Joe St. Pierre -- doing his second commission for me here, but not his last -- does a bang-up job bringing these three together. The template for this piece was a recent Rawhide Kid limited series cover by Mark Green. I asked Joe to pattern it after than and boy did he deliver. Joe -- whose work has been published by Marvel and Valiant among others -- is VERY affordable and gives great service. I give him my highest recommendation. To be sure these are some obscure characters. I had to ask myself, "who the heck are these guys?" Nice addition Damon. Joe was one of my fave artists in the early to mid 90's. Glad to see him making a comeback.

I definitely had to work the Google to learn more about these characters. The one thing I didn't need help figuring out was that this is an exceptionally executed commission!

Love the little touches on this one: the gunshot blasts and especially Yang's throwing star. This piece makes me want to dig through my collection to find my one Yang book.
