DescriptionNow this isn't something you see every day. Talk about "vintage" Golden, Marvel Classic Comics #28 (1977), The Cask of Amontillado, marked the very first published work by Michael Golden, although some say it was actually work he did for DC (House of Secrets?) that laid around in a drawer for a year or two. Either way, this was his first work for Marvel and Golden even inked it himself with a crowquill pen (YIKES). This page reminded me so much of Golden's work from "Micronauts" a year or two later (the building structure reminds me of "homeworld" and the technique on the boots of the running figures at the bottom remind me of his take on the "dog soldiers") and overall had just a real "Mondo Cane" feel to it. Discovering Micronauts #4 on the shelves just blew me away as a child and I always dreamed of owning an original Golden. Once I saw this at monster collectibles, I knew this was the page for me. Besides, it's Edger Allan Poe and who can afford a Golden micronauts page? .......................................Golden even did the honors of signing (Heroes Con 2012) it with his old 70’s logo signature that always had me scanning the cover for back in the day. A real laid back, cool guy. This is also the first issue Golden starts including "piles of bones", something he'd become famous for as it can be seen in everything from a Vampirella (print) to Rom cover #9. Social/Sharing |
