Description

George Perez's centerpiece cover to DC's WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS. This triptych cover, which George affectionately described as "101 Damn Lanterns," took him three weeks to complete.

I had the good fortune of picking up this piece in person and spending several hours with George, which was a real thrill. One of the first comic books I read was CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, and the chance to meet him in person fulfilled a childhood dream. The stories are all true: not only is he one of the most influential artists of the last several decades, George is also just about one of the greatest guys I've met in the industry.

As for the cover itself, George first drew the four Earth-bound Green Lanterns who were to be each individual issue's centerpiece, starting with Hal Jordan. George, aided by a GL encyclopedia, then added the other 97 Green Lanterns over the course of the next several weeks.

As for the piece itself, it's a virtual Who's Who of the current GL universe even as it testifies to George's skill at fitting in a number of diverse characters into a defined space. Each character is distinctly defined, even as the fog of war makes it difficult to discern friend from foe.

Many thanks to my good friend Spencer Beck, who has been so instrumental in not just obtaining this beauty, but also in helping me meet my collecting goals over the last several years.

Grail grail grail....are you kidding with this?!?! Love the massive amount of characters, action, and acres of art on this. I don't think there is one blank square inch on this piece. Maybe best Perez piece ever? Outstanding.

It's um... It's Green! 101 one ways to draw a Green Lantern. Anyone else would go blind doing that, but not George. Congrats!

Ed, are you kidding me? Guess you don't need the Bolland GL Corps cover any more so I'll gladly take it back ;-)

That's funny, Yoram--I thought of the Bolland piece when I first saw this one. It's almost like a fight broke out while they were all on a roadtrip--maybe half of them wanted McDonald's while the other half demanded Chick-fil-A?

Raw. Uncut. Ridiculousness. And if course...GRAIL! I can only imagine the feels that must come when you see this in person. Congrats on the Green Shrine and on meeting Mister Perez.
