DescriptionYes! My first jam piece done! Took awhile...but done!I had the idea to do a Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends jam awhile ago, wanting a few of my favorite Spidey artists to contribute. With Spidey being my favorite character, this was THE Spidey cartoon of my childhood - check out the intro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgN0g4vqYMg! Doesn't hold up as much now...but it sure brings back memories...and I'm STOKED that these artists were able to kill it on this homage. So here's the story. Initially, I contacted Chris Bachalo. I was working on purchasing a couple of pieces from him (see in my gallery), and when I brought this idea up, he was down. I wanted him to do Iceman from the start because 1) I love his rendition, and 2) I loved his short ASM run. He did say since Spidey was the central figure, I should start with him. That was always going to be Humberto Ramos - Mr. Spider-Man of recent years. I have some published pieces and a couple of sketches but not a full commission so he had to be the guy for this. I set it up with his rep Joseph Damon at a con a few years back and Humberto got it done that weekend. Killer crouching pose! I actually dig the inexactness of the coloring...gives the piece a looser, more organic, feel. What's funny is that Humberto didn't realize it was going to be a jam, so when I got it back I really liked it but thought it might have taken up too much of the 11x17 board. I didn't complain, though! I sent Chris a scan and thought he might be able to draw Iceman a little smaller. He told me "I can work around and behind it." When I saw what he did I was overjoyed. He made the character way bigger on the board than I thought he would. He basically used up the whole right side. What's really cool is how he added ice around Humberto's signature and stamp. Pretty sweet! Next, I had Mr. Stan Lee sign it. And, I didn't have him sign it because he co-created Spider-Man and Iceman. Nope, I did it because he used to narrate for some of the show's episodes. Other children of the '80's will know what I'm talking about! 2 of 3 characters done - Firestar left. I had a couple of options but quickly settled on Ryan Stegman. If you take a look at my gallery, you'll see I'm a huge fan of the guy's stuff. His Spider-Man work is fairly limited, but even so, I think he's one of the best to have worked on the character and that universe. He's actually ended up becoming a pretty good friend, too. I dropped it off with him last year and picked up the finished piece at this year's ECCC. 3 for 3! Another great job. Love the coloring/lighting effect and how he too used up a the whole other side of the board. He told me he did multiple sketches on other paper before starting as he did NOT want to screw up a piece that Ramos and Bachalo had worked on! Lastly, I got it framed. These 3 guys all have a more animated style which I think really complement each other. Lucky me - I got my 3 favorite Spider-Man artists of the last 10 years or so to contribute. Stan the Man's signature is a nice bonus. With all that, I wanted it displayed. Sorry for the long description here but I thought it would be cool to write up for myself and whoever was interested. Hope y'all like! And no, I never planned to include Ms. Lion...;) Social/Sharing |

Supremely awesome. I was thinking about a Spiderman and his amazing friends jam but you beat me to the punch! And to get bachalo on it is a huge win!

Not typically a jam fan but THIS IS AWESOME! Not only love the execution but love the concept from one of my staple shows as a kid. Bravo!

Yeah, I'm not a big jam person myself, at least yet, anyway. This is my first. In my view, they really have to be thought through. Here, all 3 artists have s similar cartoony style that blended well and really complimented the jam theme. I also just lucked out that the images came out so big, taking up the whole 11x17 board. I'm working on one more right now but it's still far from being done. We'll see! Thanks again, and thanks all, for the comments!

'80's was the heyday for cartoons...though I may be a bit biased ;)

As a child of the 80's and a long time Spidey fan, I think this is by far the coolest Spidey jam piece I've ever seen. Congrats!!!

Thanks, Michael! Definitely one of my favorite commissions and pieces overall! These 3 are 3 of my favorite Spidey artists of all time and I'm VERY fortunate to have all 3 contribute to the jam! It's framed on the wall so I still look at it all the time!

This is simply one of the best commission pieces I’ve ever seen by Ramos. I’m jealous lol. I’m trying to get a full body colour commission myself it’s proving to be difficult

I agree, Miles, no bias of course ;) Humberto and dealer Joe Damon thought so, too, as they ended up using the Spidey image in the Ramos My Marvels vol. 3 art book - was pretty cool to see after the fact! I’ve included a pic in the additional images. Thanks for the comment, man, and good luck! Perseverance can pay - hope it does for you!

I keep coming back to this one - what a trifecta of artists! And real, signature style from each on all three of the characters. I can't believe I'm saying this.. but I think I like Bachalo's Iceman best! Excuse me - I have to go take my temperature. :)

It's high time I pay a pilgrimmage to this hallowed commission. Tremendous creation story that intimately involves none other than... yourself! Friendships forged, a Stan the Man app., everything one could ask for in the perfect commission. Congrats, baby !

Thanks, Steve! This was a true labor of love...and I still LOVE it. One of my fave commissions for sure, and has been framed on the wall for many years now. Can't beat great art paired with a great story in its creation/acquisition!

I know I'm late to the party in terms of commenting on this, but I just came across this almost at random a moment ago and couldn't believe the awesomeness I was seeing. Simply amazing (pun intended)!
