DescriptionI’ve become a big fan of German’s (see Black Panther page in my gallery with more comin’ – his inks wash skills are tops) so am now glad to have picked up a commission – the noble alien equine-man, Beta Ray Bill! Thought he’d be a good choice for German as Bill’s got a lot of design elements to his costume, and lotsa colors, too. Wasn’t wrong, right?! Check out them watercolors.Beta Ray Bill has got to be in the top 5 when it comes to comic character names. Looks cool, sounds cool, rolls right off the tongue. OK, on to the art, lol. Great charging pose, with Stormbreaker alight. And cool, when you inspect, not much in terms of dividing lines – differentiation comes from the colors themselves. Love how the red cape pops against the background as well his costume and skin. Perfect face too :) German seemed pretty excited to do this as he hadn’t drawn Bill prior, and I think it shows in the end result. 11x14 goodness. Wow, a fantastic and wonderfully colored portrayal of Beta Ray Bill! As much as I love pencils and inks, I've been appreciating paintings a lot more recently. Really really like this one!

I love that left hand! From the figure work to the coloring, the entire thing is top notch! To this day, Walter Simonson's greatest creation. I love the name too, though for many eyars I pronounced it Betta, which honestly comes out more easily than Bayta. Anyone else do the same?

Yeah, that left hand is awesome. I always said Bayta as opposed to Betta, but saying Betta Ray right now...reminds me of the song Battery by Metallica, lol. Take a listen and you'll hear it in the chorus :)

The watercolors here are just beautiful. The main figure is boldly drawn but the paint gives Beta Ray Bill an almost dreamlike quality. What an exquisite piece!

KAH-THOOM! Oh, yes! This is a fantastic Beta Ray Bill from German. And all the energy emanating from Stormbringer, which he made the focal point of the image, it's just a great artistic choice. Love that color work, too. Man, you are KILLING commissions this year, Kahlil. I'm still on the lookout for my first BBB piece, but it'll happen. Great choice. Congrats!

The red cape just pops in this piece. Feels like a theme song is about to drop. I am going with Nina Simone Sinnerman in my head while looking at this piece.

Forgive me! I've been out for a bit and am catching up on some OA goodness I have missed... And can I pass this one up? I say thee nay! I know we share a deep affection for ol' Bill here, and this is a really great piece. Incredible color work, too, as the storm rages on around him, and that mad flash of red as his cape billows behind him. As he inexorably strides towards the viewer, I think it is safe to say that trouble is afoot. I fear the worst... :) A beautiful and powerful commission, K! More superb stuff to add to your gallery! Awesome (and congrats)!

Thanks for the add, man! I thought you'd dig this one, being a fellow Bill fan. And that cape - really is a "mad flash of red"! One of my favorite parts about the piece.
