DescriptionBusy time of year work-wise has started up something fierce and been doing a lot of weekend trips, including Heroes Con, then a couple after with the fam. So haven’t been on CAF posting and perusing in the last month or so but I’m trying to get back in the swing. Last post in June was a Thundercats piece by Freddie Williams II so I’m keeping that theme going today!Eddie Nunez is a buddy of mine. Known him since 2011 when I first started collecting art. He worked at DC designing for the DC Online Universe game while doing some comic work alongside. But in recent years he’s been doing the character designs for Powerhouse Animation, namely on the Netflix anime series Seis Manos and more recently on Masters of the Universe: Revelation. He’s got that exaggerated, muscle bound, anime-ish kind of style that works perfectly for it. One of his biggest influences as a youngster was Street Fighter II (you can see it in his art, no doubt) so I thought it’d be cool to commission something like that. At a show in Phoenix he had the Lion-O already done, on 9x12. I liked it, decided to get it, but also thought it needed a mirror “vs” image. Especially the way Lion-O is kind of looking at the viewer. I asked if he could do a mirror Mumm-Ra and he was all about it. Got it in the mail later and was stoked. So here they are, 2 art boards merged into one image for your CAF viewing pleasure. ‘80s throwdown imminent! “Round 1. FIGHT!” :) And stay tuned! Got a doozie of a Thundercats post next week to close July out! Social/Sharing |

The merge makes for a great presentation. Looks like a TV ad for one of those big pay-per-view fights. Both pieces are fantastic, but reallly love the Lion-O.

Exactly! Definitely dig that vibe :) And yes, the Lord of the Thundercats rocks here.
Thanks, Eric, and all, for the comments!

Eddie Nunez did his thing on this piece. Captured the raw energy that I remember from the series perfectly.

Nothin' like a nostalgic piece by a skilled bud, those fierce tones!

I like Eddie too! Oddly enough my Nunez commission is my most viewed on CAF.
Glad to see he is still killing these colored paper pieces.

Fantastic face-off between Mumm-Ra and Lion-O! I especially like how Lion-O is looking a bit towards the viewer, like "Can you believe this guy?" Really cool looking commission by Eddie Nunez!

I'm gonna spend some change
Thundercats in my life
Eddie Nunez’s real good
Gonna make a difference
Gonna draw it right
Eddie turns up the color on
My favorite Thunder Ho
This art is blowin' my mind
I see the kid in the Street
Fighter enough to beat
Who am I, to be blind pretending not to see what this needs?
After school in regard
Nostalgia’s hard to top
In a cartoon show
They follow each other on Thundera road
'Cause I got artwork to post
That's why I want you Lion-O
I'm starting with Mumm-Ra as the mirror
I'm asking him to bring his snakes
And no artwork could've been any better
If they wanna make the CAF KG’s OA
Take a look at your art as it’s not so late

I'm ROLLING, lol! One of your best, man!
"In a cartoon shoooooow" LOL!
"They follow each other on Thundera road" - perfect.
"I'm asking him to bring his snakes" HAHA!!
Needed that laugh in the middle of the day. You've outdone yourself again, my friend. Thanks!!

Fantastic work! Really love the style here, as well as all the colors at play on the brown paper (and how effortlessly Eddie makes it all look!)... Love Lion-O's white ink highlights. Even though I never got to see the Thundercats when I was younger (just aged out of the window when they came out, I think) it's easy to see the appeal thanks to these these wicked cool portraits (and I know you love the series)! Great pick ups, K - I really like Eddie's style - definitely another artist I need to check into, thanks to your awesome gallery. :) Thank you!

Thanks, Jason! Yes - look into Eddie's stuff! Busy guy these days, but does still attend cons from time to time. And the use of the brown paper IS cool, huh? Don't see that too often. AND good point on those white highlights - they do subtly pop! Oxymoron :)

What a great "versus" piece that uses the board's textures and features to perfection. And the two figures are just so striking. Congratulations, my friend!

Wow, this guy definitely looks like he comes from the world of animation and video game design. You can see he utilizes the exaggerated proportions from those two industries, yet it's still perfectly clear that he has a very firm grasp of the anatomy and how it all works. Beautiful stuff!
