DescriptionGoing with a few commission posts over the next couple weeks from the Inky Knuckles staple of ar-teests! First up here, Joe Palmer, providing his uber stylized treatment of Miles and Gwen! Was stoked I got 4 figures, 2 of each character, as opposed to just 2 total. Got the swinging shots up top and the fist bump (“BUMP” in video game lettering) on the bottom. Back up top, I know I’d be yelling something like “YA-HOO!” if I was doing what they were doing. Well at least until I got the hang of it. Probably would start with “AAAHHH!” Also, I specifically asked for the new Miles costume. I dig the original no doubt, but liked the new just as much. Big departure, but still Spider-Man, with some urban flair. Particularly love how the sweatshirt in action scenes provides more movement to the image. And Gwen’s costume was a home run from the get, and I’m sure is a large part why the character has had the staying power she has. Back to the art. Check out how the background buildings sort of bend as you move out – there’s that stylization again. And lastly…zipatone! Man, Joe uses it to great effect throughout and I’ve spent a fair amount of time poring over. He had the vision but had to execute on it, which clearly took some legit meticulousness. Killer piece of OA as well as a nice nod for me to one of my favorite films (and not just animated films) ever in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse! Thanks, Joe, and the Inky team! Social/Sharing |

I'd be all "OUCH...my hammy!!!" I love the fun energy of this commission. And you know I love clever zipatone use, as he did. I also really like his choices to go detailed or strip it out to emphasize and accentuate what he wants. And smashing up the scenes like that is a very clever concept. This is a great one! Swinging high

Yeah, J, no doubt on the accentuating. The gradients of the zipatone are crazy. Definitely spent some time inspecting. Thanks, man, and all, for the comments!

Whoa, now THIS is uber FUN! Incredibly stylized and has the energy and experimentation I used to see from so many students in art school. Fearless to try something different! Not only can I clearly HEAR the YA-HOO!, but I can also FEEL the natural fist bump they give each other. So much fun!

Love the screentone work, and the hand-lettering throughout. Great choice on the Chase Conley suit redesign- It needs to be in more commissions, and Palmer nailed the sneakers (my favorite part of the costume)! Congrats, K!

Appreciate it, man! Yeah, the sneakers are pretty rad. Overall a fun and unique costume design, no doubt. I think Miles has gone back to the original now but hopefully we see this one again in the future. And don't you have a couple nice Palmer Spideys yourself? ;)

Joe Palmer probably draws the best stick figures in comics right now. Fun bumpy page.

Why can't I get over that video game lettering? I mean, that swinging figure of Miles practically looks pixelated.

I got the blues, but I got Miles
All I have to do is yell YA-H0o!
And then I swing just fine
I've got Joe Palmer, brought out his A game
When my webbin's low, you do your inks just so
And then I feel OK
Your so good, the way Gwen lives
So good, you're the best there is
Turned out so cool, got it oh from Cam
When I think of me, not hard to be
A person quite so glad
You got Ghost Spider, gets him all zip clad
When I'm feelin' small she give me heart and soul
Just when I'm feelin' bad
She's so good, the way she gives
So good, gotta bump the fist
Use the zip-a-tone
Slow applyin'
Slim was shadin' hard
When I was buyin'
Gwen you swang along
We'd be a sweet team
When you stole my heart
I was with it

So, SO awesome, K! What a beautiful piece! I absolutely love the on-page lettering; a highly stylized shout out to one of the MANY charming touches of the first Spider-Verse movie - those on-screen exclamations ("Bagel!"). And style is absolutely what this one is all about: love the "two in one" you're getting here, with the all-out action on top and the mic drop on the bottom. Great call on the fish-eye wrap of the buildings on the bottom half, and the zipatone application is masterful. Fantastic commission - another artist whose work I'm unfamiliar with, but now know of thanks to your awesome gallery and great vision! :) Thank you, KG!!

Thanks, man! I like the point about "charming touches" - I absolutely agree :) And I have to give credit to my fellow collectors for introducing me to Joe's work...and now that intro goes to you! Dig that kind of organic expansion with our hobby!

That is laid out so well. Not many commissions reach the level of a cover. Congrats on receiving one that did! Makes me want to look into the artist more.

Thanks, SC! I agree, definitely cover worthy. Maybe Marvel will be open to adding some off kilter yet killer OA to cover some books?! We'll see. Thanks for the comment, and yes, check Joe's stuff out! He's repped by Inky Knuckles.

How did I miss this??? Two of my favorite Spiderverse characters drawn so stylistically COOL! Love the curved buildings and fist bump. And the YA-HOO scene up top makes me think of the times in my life when I have felt absolutely free and uninhibited. Fantastic add!!!
