Description

A fantastic action page. Autogiro against Sub in the waters off Coney Island. The accurate details in this piece are amazing. The, paste on, balloons have come off, but I still have them set aside. Great 30's action by a master.

I really like Heath over Kaluta on this story, and this is a great example of why. Thanks for posting these!

David, Yes, they are! Michael, as am I, is a huge fan of Aviation's Golden Age. He always delivers that air Of authenticity to his aircraft, or any other period machinery. If he includes it in an illustration, or story, you can be sure it is spot on. I could study his planes for many hours. When you factor in his other artistic talents, it provides an amazing illustrative experience. He is truly one of the greats.

Agreed!! As a fan of early aviation, you may enjoy some of my McWilliams pieces. Cheers!

Didn't Joe Kubert say something like Heath's drawings of boats, planes and tanks were so good that, rather than photos, other artists used his drawings for their swipe files? Regardless, Heath's inks over Kaluta's pencils made for an interesting combination.

Timothy, Yes, Heath was a terrific artist on D.C.'s war titles. His work is beautifully executed realism. You feel as if you are facing the Axis planes and tanks in his pages. While some did not enjoy this paring, I like the end result. It showcases the talents of both legendary artists.
