Description

It's been a while since I added a David Finch piece to my gallery but to me, this piece was well worth the wait. Nearly three years ago, I started my passion for collecting art and connecting with artists with a Michael Turner piece of Superboy that I won at the Sam Loeb Auction in August 2006. It's been a little over a year since Mike died and although I only met him once, I went to his memorial at SDCC 2008 and was really touched by the creators and fans who were inspired by Mike. Particularly, the creators who worked with him at Top Cow...you could feel the effect he had on them and the outpouring was one of love and grief for the loss of a special friend. David's words, especially, were so heart-felt. When I got on David's list over a year ago, I knew I wanted to pay respect to Mike. I thought about Witchblade, Fathom, or Soulfire characters but it was the cover of Superman Batman 26--the one with the two best buddies-Robin and Superboy that inspired me the most. My time on the list finally came and the timing couldn't be more right. These two characters had grown and Superboy literally had been reborn and Robin reborn after Batman's death as Red Robin. I thought about the characters as they are now. I wanted the cover to inspire Dave and show that life changes, moves on, and that we grow and live and learn and hence, become reborn stronger and better after the loss of someone close to us. I love this piece for that very reason. The composition is simple but great--the characters are going up and forward...Thanks David and Meredith (it was great to meet little Isaac also) for this special piece of artwork that pays homage to a very special man !!!

Not a major fan of the Red Robin costume, but that is some terrific art!
