Description

I spotted Mike Ploog perched by himself at the bar of the hotel the night before Heroes con. I went over and introduced myself and asked if he'd care to join us over at our table. Ploog spent several hours telling stories of his time at Marvel, working on Bakshi's "Lord of the Rings", as well as story boarding for John Carpenter's THE THING and Micheal Jackson's "Moonwalker". The man has even worked for Steven Spielberg ! Just a true gentlman, one of the most down to earth chaps you ever did meet. I told him how much of an impact he made on thousands of youngsters just like me with all the horror series at marvel in the '70s and he replied, "That's about all I made." Seems he left Marvel over the three issue Weirdworld arc. He'd been given the green light and then after he started, he had the rug pulled out from under him. I loaned him my copy of the Warren companion to check out over night and he returned it with this really cool illustration of "Uncle Creepy" on the title page. He spent the next day doing free sketches for anyone in line. Just the coolest dude around. Since he resides in the UK, he hardly ever does shows in the states. Man, I would love to hang out with him some more. Just a real treat! Also in the photo are sketches from Jim Starlin, Joe Staton (Eman) and even Budd Root, who may not have worked for warren, but I consider him a WARREN "historian" anyway. Norem was also extremely pivotial in the 70s moster movement and still a living legend so I also inlcuded him.
