DescriptionAnyone who’s perused my gallery knows I’m a big Stegman fan, particularly on his Spider related stuff, but this is a BIG get for me! I’ve gotten nice splashy images by Ryan of a few Spider guys – Scarlet, 2099, and Superior. But I’ve always wanted to get that big image of Peter Parker Spidey in his original duds...done!This is from ASM: Venom, Inc. Alpha, just released today. It’s the first of a 6 part storyline and this is Ryan’s big intro of Spidey in the classic costume – he’d been in a more high tech one for the last couple of years. When I saw this I immediately thought I was seeing both a Romita and McFarlane influence, which is awesome, but it’s also clearly Ryan’s Spider-Man, which is also awesome. Love the pose, inks, the lenses, that right hand…the whole nine. A really great Spidey image all around from, IMO, a creator who will leave his mark on my favorite character when it’s all said and done. Brian Reber did a sweet job on colors, too, accentuating the lighting in a dark setting – included an image of the published page. After this, Ryan’s got 2 issues of ASM as part of the storyline and the Venom, Inc. Omega capper at the end. He did a backup story in ASM #665 but this will be the first time he’ll be doing whole issues of the flagship Spidey title…a big achievement for any up and coming artist. I’ve told him congrats directly but I’ll also say it here – congrats! Thanks, again (and Paolo, too, of course!), for the piece and keep up the good work! Great Spidey pick up. I believe down the road we will be looking back at Stegman as being THE spidey artist of this era.

Such a GREAT Spidey Page. A real classic posing and rendering. Stegman is a hell of a Spider-Man artist. Bravo!

I obviously do, too, buddy! He's definitely got a handle on the Spidey-verse and his style fits the characters so well...and he continues to get better. Looking forward to his upcoming work on Venom - if the preview images are any indication it will not disappoint! Thanks for the comment!

Absolute stunner and is it just me or is the black and white version more striking than the colour one?

You are definitely not alone, John! The color job is really nice, especially considering the dark setting, but you get a lot more of the line work and some of that scratchy detail with the bold B&W of the original! Thanks for the comment!

Great splash! I am obviously always a bit to slow in deciding but on the other side it perfectly fits into your fantastic collection!

I'm a couple years late to the party, but WOW, what a splash! Stegman's Spidey is all his own, but you're right - you can see the influences of so many of the greats. Congrats again - now I need to find a Spider-Man by Ryan of my own!

Couple years late, it's all good, Casey - glad you stopped by. Just don't take so long again ;) Seriously, thanks for the comments. I still love Ryan's Spidey. His Venom stuff has been awesome but I do hope to see him do a run on Spidey again at some point. Another opportunity for you to pick something up! But you'd have to be super quick on the Felix site trigger :) But hey, there's some Spidey stuff out there now, too - get to it :) And good luck!

I took a seven year hiatus from comic art. When I came back, Stegman caught my eye first. First young buck on my new ISO, and it started with his Spidey, but has moved on to other characters as well. This is a killer piece! Killer pose, killer lighting, and mesmerizing hand.

Thanks, S&S! I remember thinking when Ryan started on Scarlet Spider "this dude can seriously draw spider people". Was glad he had some runs on Spidey, and though he's doing his creator owned thing right now with Vanish, I do hope to see another Stegman Spidey stint sometime soon, S&S!
