DescriptionFun recent pick up from and by Ed McGuinness, with Mark Morales on inks, featuring…the God Without Fear!Just a great splashy shot of DD here. I like that I got a nice example of Ed’s rendition of the classic looking DD BUT with a unique twist with the pose and the sword. This Avengers arc is a tie-in to the War of the Realms storyline, and in it, DD gets the powers of Heimdall, including the Bifrost sword Hofund. So here he’s got that contemplative straight-up stance with both hands on the hilt ala Heimdall. He’s having a chat with Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk (really nice face there!) and is cryptically clueing her in on her current predicament with his all-knowing, all-seeingness :) Won’t get into that here but check out the book if so inclined. Or, just take in the McGuinness DD OA goodness. Also included a published image which is pretty cool, as there they digitally add in the stars in the shadowed parts of DD, making it clear if the sword wasn’t enough that this ain’t the same DD :) Thanks Ed for the piece and thanks all, as always, for stopping by! Daredevil with the powers and Bifrost sword of Heimdall? That is so very cool. And McGuinness is definitely the master of heroic poses. Love that colorized page too with the 'cosmos costume.' Great splash!!!

Okay, I really like McGuiness' take on Daredevil, but I have to say that I'm most excited about the fact that Jennifer Walters is in a modern comic! When did this happen? Isn't this the first time She-Hulk can turn back into Jennifer since the 1980's?

Yup, Ruben, she's currently on the Avengers and has been powered up by Celestials. So when she changes from Jen to She-Hulk she's way bigger and stronger than what we're used to seeing. A new twist. Check out the issue this page is from if you're curious to see for yourself! It's a She-Hulk centric issue.
Thanks, man, and all for the comments!

It's funny, Matt, I don't know if I'd ever overtly thought "Ed draws a great DD" but when looking back and thinking about some of his images...I actually did! Just not overtly, I guess :) Just here on CAF there are a handful of really nice examples. Including mine now ;) Thanks for the comment, bud!

Another awesome page, K! You know, I don't think there's a better artist at making a page "splashy", and yet maintaining SUPER high storytelling standards than Ed McGuinness. At least I can't think of any better...? Almost every one of his pages features a killer "main" drawing / story moment (well, they ALL feature killer drawings, but you know what I mean), but the plot keeps moving along briskly and cleanly (even with only 3 or 4 panels). He's SO good at finding the right moment to show (and knowing how/where on the page to show it to best serve the story) - all his work is so solid and clean...
Like your sterling example here: a great DD example (thanks for showing the finished colored page! DD's cosmic "shading" was an inspired choice!), and Jen is just really, really lovely. WIth her hair styled like that, she reminds me of Jaime Hernandez's Maggie, circa the early 90's.
Really solid inking by Mr. Morales here, too (which is no surprise). I'm really transfixed by the sword - just right, not overdone - and the shading back behind the manequins in the broken shop windows. Nice touches. Great page - congrats!
