DescriptionTeased this one with last week’s post :) My favorite image from this run AND I’ve checked off a Bagley cover from the ol’ collector list! Loved the image when I first saw the published comic and had been mulling the OA. I just kept going back to it so that’s a good indicator to pull the trigger, right?!OUCH – look how far Reilly’s head’s snapped back after Kaine’s left hammer! And to add insult to literal injury he’s being punched through a wall. A truly dynamic image with the action coming right at the viewer. That’s what I liked first. Second was having such a bold rendition of Kaine in his Scarlet Spider (SS) outfit as rendered by Bagley. I’ve loved the look since back in 2012’s Kaine SS book – designed and first put in a comic by one of my fave artists in Ryan Stegman. It’s actually what got me into Ryan’s work in the first place. So a little throwback quality there. Third, the detailing is killer throughout, from the characters themselves to all of the falling and breaking bricks, no doubt accentuated by Dell. I particularly like Kaine’s lens sheen, and how some bricks are inked black vs. others, based on where they fall in the scene. Cool stuff. Lastly, the piece takes me back to the Bagley ASM books of the ‘90s. These 2 SS's were bitter rivals then, to say the least, with Kaine actually initially appearing to take out the “imposter” Reilly. Some things, it appears, never change :) It all lends to this being one of Bagley’s best modern covers IMO. No bias there ;) Thanks, John, and thanks all for looking! Social/Sharing |

Much appreciated, Ruben - those adjectives seemed to just have rolled right off your fingertips :) And you're right, man, Bagley and Dell truly did make the killer combo with this output - a very worthy first KG Bags cover, indeed :)

Well...if I tried hard enough, Riz, I think I could figure something out ;) But I hear you, man, this really does hit on all cylinders for me as far as a Bagley cover example goes - the characters, energy, pure illustration, ink detail, etc., all at the right price point :) Thanks, man - glad to have joined you and others in the Bagley cover club!

Sorry I'm so late to the party here, K... and what a party it is! When you combine a heavyweight like Bagley with the deft skills of John Dell (and his awesome, consistent attention to detail) you end up with a piece like this - a knockout in more ways than one. Incredible shading and lighting on those bricks add a three-dimensionality that throws these two combattants right into the lap of the viewer. I would imagine this would be a stunning piece to see in person! Beautiful work - a real stunner - and a terrific "first" Bagley cover to grace your already outstanding collection with... Congrats!

I guess I can forgive your being late...the comments make up for it so we're OK. Just don't make it a habit ;) Still looking at this piece frequently for all the points you note... particularly that 3D quality - it's totally there and even clearer when looking at the piece in hand! Ben getting straight thumped right at the reader! Thanks, man!
