DescriptionClosed out 2024 with ‘80s Spidey and opening 2025 with modern Spidey. The former, black costume. The latter, sorta reverse :) I open up new year CAF posting with my first pieces by artists and this is my first by Stefano Caselli, and my first non-variant ASM cover! I was reading comics rabidly during this early 2010’s time frame and that included Dan Slott’s run on ASM, starting with #648, the “Big Time” era. Caselli was one of the artists and I loved his Spidey rendition, and this cover was one of my faves. Feel fortunate to have gotten the OA, especially as he doesn’t sell his art. Thanks for letting me pick it up, FB!This is when Pete was part of the Future Foundation, taking Johnny’s place in the Fantastic Four after he was thought dead. He of course wasn’t, but at this point, they thought he was. In any case! The team decided to change their name to a different FF with Pete’s add and also create new uniforms which I dug. Straight white and black and Spidey’s is kind of an inverse of the black costume, though with a little more design elements and with straight lines/edges vs round. Really like the way every cast member looks here. Sue, Ben, Reed, and Pete. Classic cartoony look but with that ink wash gray rendering providing the lighting effect coming from Sue’s side. And with Franklin and Valeria it adds that fun family factor that is “FF”. No surprise this cover was used for one of the trade volumes. Great OA with a nostalgic bent, albeit modern. But it is weird to believe it’s been 14 years! Lastly and coincidentally, earlier this month, I saw this costume is going to be used in new animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”! Here’s a link to the trailer I saw it in: https:www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3J2JRQg040. Premieres on Disney+ next week. Thanks for looking, and for those hitting OAX, looking forward to seeing y’all in a couple days! Social/Sharing |

I remember digging Spidey's FF look enough to start reading that run. Very cool cover, especially enjoying the playfulness of the Fantasti-kids. Congrats!

Nice cover and appreciate the history recall for specifics, was trying to remember why Peter was there and not Human Torch (may he temporarily RIP). Cheers!

Really cool looking Future Foundation cover and getting any non variant main ASM cover is a collecting accomplishment for real. Looking forward to that new Spidey animation series, and see ya at OAX!

Yeah, man, I hadn't really realized I hadn't gotten a true blue non-variant ASM cover yet, but definitley wanted to...glad to have made it! More than that, it's just really cool looking, as you say!
Thanks for the add and it was great catching up at OAX - 'til next time!

It's such a good vibration
It's such a sweet foundation
You're such a art temptation
It's such a sweet foundation
I got the web one, rock one, flame one
Sue and Reed ones, even childrens
Hook, one, two, hex of three, they going through, Caselli
Nobody do it like you do art for me
Sheesh, don't blow half on the Dan Slott treats
Less talkin', let's 'cation at South Beach
Costume boost, wassup, ‘Lando unleashed
Yeah, yeah, yeah
You got all Big Time on the prize
Right now, right now, right now
I got a real good Thing for the eyes
Right now, right now, right now
And it's worth Future bit of my time
Right now, right now, right now
I'm revved up, FLA
I'm tryna see you right now, what's your ETA?

I went back and tried out the flow with the lyrics...it works, man. Had to practice some, though :) And apt as I just returned back from the FLA! Thanks for the add, MW!

Okay, I kid you not, I would have considered owning this piece only for the little girl, whoever she is (Valeria?), pulling on Reed's cheek! That alone is so representative of the FUN that comics should be about! I like the genre to be serious on the whole, but every now and then it needs to also allow us to relate by showing a more human side and this is a great example of that. Super cute!

The interplay between Reed and Val is the chef's kiss on this piece.

What a fantastic & amazing way to start 2025!! This is a beautiful cover with a mixture of gravitas and family fun (with Valeria pulling on Reed's face and Franklin doing a web-thwipping Spidey pose.) The Thing has a particularly unique look to him that I really dig. And of course the Future Foundation costumes are so cool. Congrats! See you at OAX!

Agreed on ALL points, Paul, especially the mixture of gravitas and family fun. I hath joined you in another category: non-variant main ASM covers. I got a little ways to catch up as far as number of them, though ;)
And great catching up at OAX this past weekend! 'Til next time, my friend!

Congrats on scoring this sweet cover! The spider-suit design is very compelling and the playful gags with Franklin and Val are nice touches. Beautiful ink washes too. Safe travels to Orlando!

FANTASTIC, if I may say so! A gorgeous rendition of the First Family (or -extended- first family, with Pete there) dripping with artistic muscle in both technique and composition. Great technique in the form of superb figure, wash, and tone work and superb composition not only in the strong "team pose/arrangement", but in those character touches that ground the piece and underscore the family dynamic. Reed and Valeria being genuine in the moment here, Franklin's attitude (and Spidey love)... And Stefano's rendition of The Thing? Oh, my stars and garters - SO good. Love the "no neck" look - just a huge slab of unmovable rock standing guard over the people he loves most. Superb. Hickman's run was a high water mark for FF fans, and the excitement even bled over into other titles needing the boost, like, y'know, ASM... 😜 Outstanding cover from this unforgettable era, K! Sincere congrats on this pick up!
