DescriptionHappy 2/22/22 Tuesday, all!Keeping the BP train rolling with my first OA pickup from Rodolfo Migliari! When I was reading Green Lantern I remember digging his work but never picked up a piece, so am glad to have checked that box with his rendition of the King here. Originally created to benefit the Hero Initiative, hence the emblem at the bottom left. Smaller piece, about the size of a comic book, but some crazy rendering packed in nonetheless. The shading detail done via ink (wash?) is nuts. What I like most is the head and mask. Love the kind of furled brow expression, and how the light source coming from the left is played out. Actually pretty cool to see the latter through the whole figure. Also gotta appreciate the contrast exhibited with the darks on BP vs the completely white moon vs the light grey outlining it. This is actually my 2nd post in the last 3 that has that full moon behind BP’s head, both used to great effect :) Gotta love them value wins that don’t break the bank when you can get ‘em! Fun piece. It's giving me old school Phantom vibes.

King of my city, king of my country, king of my homeland
King of the filthy, king of the fallen, we living again
King of the shooters, looters, boosters, and ghettos poppin'
King of the past, present, future, my ancestors watching
King of the culture, king of the soldiers, king of the bloodshed
King of the wisdom, king of the ocean, king of the respect
King of the optimistic and dreamers that go and get it
King of the winners, district, and geniuses with conviction
King of the fighters, king of the fathers, king of the belated
King of the answer, king of the problem, king of the forsaken
King of the empathy, you resent me, king of remorse
King of my enemies, may they father feed, I rejoice
King of the skyscrapers, dodging haters, broke religion
Nine faces, go against 'em, I erased 'em with precision
I embrace them with collision
Kings did it, king vision, Black Panther, King Kendrick
All hail the king, I dropped a million tears
I know several responsibilities put me here
I don't pedal backwards but I live old-fashioned
The lens that I'm looking through
Won't prescribe me the right glasses, masses are now free
Ashes I'm dumping out, 'bout to spread all 'cross seas
Sisters and brother in unison, not because of me
Because we don't glue with the opposition, we glue with peace
But still'a fuck up your organization if any beef
What do you stand for?
Are you an activist? What are your city plans for?
Are you an accident, are you just in the way?
Your native tongue contradicting what your body language say
Are you a king or you joking, are you a king or you posing?
Are you a king or you smoking bud rocks to keep you open?
Because the king don't cry, king don't die
King don't lie, king give heart, king get by, king don't fall
Kingdom come, when I come, you know why
King, king, king, king
I am T'Challa!

HECK YES! Love this take on BP, man. The wash technique actually brings Tex's work on the Marevl Knight run to mind. Stellar pickup!

Klaw, eh? Really? Here are some real claws, Loud Noise Guy. That wash is stellar. What a soft lighting effect he created, which in turn gives great texture to his suit. Subtly brilliant. You are killing it with commissions, Kahlil. And so many new artists. Thanks for sharing with us. :) Congrats!

"Loud Noise Guy." Intimidating :) Glad you're digging some of these newer artists, J! Migliari...he's MEAN on the texture front. I've definitely spent some time poring over this one. Thanks, man, and all, for the comments!

T'Challa looks fantastic here, but I also really love how the moon is shown just by shading around a blank circle. Great piece!

It's funny. On the one hand, the more BP fans, the better, as us who are already there got more folks to share with. On the other hand...less OA competition, lol :) I've thought about this a couple of times! Thanks, Troy!

Really nice that the only creases on his costume are on the hip and between the eyes. Smooth blending of pencils in a richly finished form.

The shading, lighting, texturing of this piece is above and beyond. Truly a great artist to make this beauty. Congrats!

Rodolfo is such a great artist, he renders in all pencil and it's crazy how he gets all that texture in a piece.

Another BP winner for your collection! Love the textures and that glowing moon. I do love that furrowed brow too. 'Cuz with T'Challa, it's not just about the strength and atheticism, it's also about the strategy, cunnning and concentration, so that he can always be three steps ahead of his foe, which is why he is the King!! Congrats on a beautiful get.

This is just wondrous all around. The wash, the pose but I particularly enjoy the faint grassing around the legs. And this is only the size of a comic??? Looks way bigger yet thats what you get with a larger than life king like the almighty Panther! Congrats, my friend!

Yeah, it's kind of a trip that it was done on such a small board - in a way, makes it even cooler, i.e, more impressive! And yep, that grass is cool. I didn't mention in my description, but the fact that it was done subtly? Good artist choice IMO. Thanks, Nash!

Another killer, K - congrats! You know, I actually think of this as the sun behind T'Challa, not the moon (sort of like the Romita, Jr cover to the first Reginald Hudlin issue - although I guess that was colored more as twilight...?); beautiful technique "backlighting" it and making the Panther leap out at you, even standing still. Regardless, I pity the troublemakers who run into The King out on the plains of Wakanda, night or day. (Doing Moon Knight one better by wearing pitch black at high noon :) ). Another terrific BP piece, and an introduction for me to Rodolfo's style; he's obviously from the classic, "clean" school of Steve Rude and Adi Granov, and your unfailingly superb eye for great OA serves you well yet again! (And I know that it seems like I'm always declaring my affection for the Kirby boots and gloves on all of these, but I'm powerless to resist: I just LOVE them. :) ). Great piece, K!

I think the fact that it could be sun or moon makes the piece even cooler! And that's funny cuz I automatically thought moon! And yeah...not sure if you wanna mess with a man in full black garb when the sun's at its peak :) I like the Kirby striped boots and gloves, too, Jason. I dig some of the newer tweaks, too, but the stripes? Straight classic. Thanks, man!
