DescriptionHere is a pretty cool item that came out of my friend John Biernat's collection. It is the cover to the Big Little Book "War in the Jungle" based on the Terry and the Pirates comic series by Milton Caniff. This is one of at least 6 Big Little Books featuring Caniff's Terry. I was fortunate enough to also inherit copies of all of these from John as well. This piece was in John's hall for all the years I had known him but I never knew what it was until just recently as I don't collect the Big Little Books. Here it is in all its glory. There are some variations that are there between the art and the printed cover which I think can be attributed to the printing process. A similar Blondie cover appears in Heritage past items with similar differences and is likely by the same artist as this cover who remains unidentified at this time. If you know who the artist is, please let me know as I'd like to give credit where it is due. A cool piece of history from almost 80 years ago! 15.5 x 16 inches.Social/Sharing |

I think this may be the first original coveer art to a Big Little Book I've ever seen. These HAVE TO be pretty rare, right? As a non-standard "specialty piece", you should add the dimensions of the art in your description. Really cool addition to your collection!

One and a half Hulk hands! Yeah, pretty rare. There are about 2 dozen past auction results at Heritage for these but considering there were over 2000 titles, that is pretty rare.

Nice size! Yeah, if Heritage has only auctioned a couple dozen of these and there were over 2000 different Big Little Books published, I'd say they should absolutely be considered extremely scarce!

Condition and deep richness of the paints suggest that it will be in better shape than the books made out of it in the long term.

'A cool piece of history' is a pretty serious understatement! What an amazing addition to your gallery!

I really like the colours. I would imagine that this would look really nice framed on a wall.

Really cool addition to your amazing Caniff collection! Beautiful depth and choices in color pallette. Whoever the artist is, a really fine job. It's amazing to think what a mega-valued piece of IP Terry and the Pirates must have been when this was published in '46.

Dale Manesis, the legendary Milwaukee dealer, was the one who bought the original trove of BLB covers that came out of Racine, WI in the early 1970's. Most of the original buyers kept them for decades and they are rarely seen. Fantastic!
