Description

This page was bought and paid for on ebay in mid-May 2013 by myself and never arrived.

Lost in the post, apparently.

I now see the self-same page is being sold on ebay by the same guy. Feel free to check the page out, including the negative feedback I eventually had to place in July of this year.

Needless to say, Buyer Beware....

Update: done some further research and apparently this seller has previous form for selling items that never arrived and selling the same item twice. I've been contacted by another CAFer who has had similarly difficult business experiences with him too. I know who he is and unfortunately he also has a CAF gallery, which is a real shame, as every other member I've dealt with here has been a real credit to our hobby and passion.
His ebay handle is codec561 and his CAF name is Nikolaos K - I sincerely wish you good luck in dealing with him.
I'd be very interested to hear from others who have had less than satisfactory dealings with this fellow. Do feel welcome to post your comments, as I think it's important to warn others and help them avoid going through this.

WOW, that is terrible! Hopefully you can get a refund.

Hey George, thanks for the sympathy, it was a pretty rotten experience - I received my refund but that didn't make up for the unrealised anticipation of getting such a great Romita piece, waiting for over a month, being told by the seller that it had been sent out, and finally having my suspicions confirmed by the fact that this page is now being sold on ebay by the same person. I basically needed to flag this up to our CAF community, as we rely on honesty and goodwill when we do our sales and trades. I certainly wouldn't want anyone else going through this!

I purchased several JR JR pages from this seller. As long as the price was high I had no problems. But as soon as I was about to win a page for a deal at the opening bid I was conveniently outbid with one bid pushing the price up $150 just past my max reserve. A day later I was told the bidder never followed threw and I was offered the page at my max bid price $150 more than my opening bid. I told the seller he should sell it to me for the opening bid price since the only other bidder was just trying to not let me have it at a good price. I suspected the whole time it was the seller who made the bid. No one interested in wining a page at the last second is going to place a reserve $150 over the current bid unless they are just trying to mark up the price. If he does it once, he does it every time. Buyer be where.

As a further update, I contacted the seller through ebay to ask him why he was selling the piece that he'd previously sold me in May of this year. He told me that the page had eventually made it's way back to him with an international mail label that was damaged to such an extent that it couldn't be sent to me. I have to say in all my time of collecting comic art I've never come across such a thing happening - but even if it had, why was the page not re-offered to me as the winning bidder to buy at the price I originally paid for it? That would surely have been the honest thing to do, and would have prevented my leaving the negative feedback I eventually felt compelled to leave on ebay in July. I offered to remove the feedback if he could show proof that the page had been posted; needless to say, this proof was not forthcoming.

You've probably seen this: http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=1072547&GSub=130969 Pretty akward. Sad to hear your bad experience

Thanks for the sympathy, Alex - it just means something to me that people read about this experience and that makes it harder for bad traders to prosper. I guess Matt's the guy who just bought it off Nikolaos - I sincerely hope he actually receives it at the price he paid. That's the thing with dodgy dealers - you never 100% know.

Don't trust codec561. I purchased a page from him in 2011 on eBay and he marked the page is shipped. A month later I still had not received it and contacted him. He said he had shipped it, but said it must have been lost and immediately refunded my money. At the time I thought, "Wow, this is great service for someone to trust me like that and immediately refund it." Fast forward 10 months and the page pops again for sale by codec561, this time for twice what I paid. I messaged him about it, but he did not get a response. Currently the page is once again listed, this time for what I originally paid for it. Also, he fails to mention when blue line copies are used, instead of pencils.

Thanks a million for your contribution, Jim. Your experience of his 'service' is so reflective of mine! Aspects of our hobby such as sales or trade rely on trust, and I have to be grateful for the overwhelming majority of our CAFers who are enthusiastic, honest, and a real pleasure to deal with. It's interesting to see so many people have had negative dealings with this guy. And, I think, terribly important that we act as a community in order to safeguard ourselves against less than honourable dealers.
