DescriptionGrail Alert!I first became aware of the beautiful art of Lee Bermejo with the wonderful "Wednesday Comics" oversized book in 2010 where he contributed a stand-out Superman series. I'm very picky as to the modern comics I read, so after that he sort of faded from my memory to some extent. Also in 2010 I was reading the ambitious reboot of characters like Doc Savage in DC's "First Wave" series. I'm a HUGE Doc fan with quite a collection of Doc memorabilia including Pulps, Prints, Comics, Books... and a few pieces of original art here in my CAF gallery. (A Bob Larkin Cover, A Pat Broderick Splash, and a Pulp Cover Prelim by George Rozen) While I was reading First Wave I was unaware that Bermejo contributed a Variant Cover that I missed at my comic shop! It was some years later during one of his CAF podcasts that Bill Cox mentioned his appreciation for Bermejo's work and I remembered my love for his Superman story. I then began seeking out some of his originals. Finally I saw this art, and man do I love it! Such a dramatic rendering, so well thought out, with tons of personality added. I found it at Splash Page (who reps Bermejo, thanks Mark Hay!) and I just drooled over it for the longest time. Then when I learned that Bermejo is going predominantly, if not completely digital with his published comic art going forward... I just had to pull the trigger. The art just fills up the 17x11.5 board and is just so spectacular... I can't really describe it well enough here. I've already mentioned what a Doc fan I am, but if you look through my gallery you can't help but notice my love for Batman (multiple pieces), and The Spirit (an Eisner drawing). And this early Batman sporting a gun... how often do you see that!?!?) Anyway, I can stop collecting now. Hope you all like it! Social/Sharing |

A classic era for these heroes of pulp and comic legends! This has the all the heroic beats in a time in which criminal gangs ruled the streets and the government was powerless to protect the people. Bermejo's vision is just as inspirational as the characters to give hope that justice will win out.

Wow! You know you're right Marcus! If you're an old movie fan you could imaging Cagney, Bogart, and the Bowery Boys in the streets below.

Larry, a stunning Lee Bermejo cover! Batman holding a gun! You don’t see that often. In fact, we only saw it a few times since the Golden Age. The Spirit, Will Eisner’s epic creation. And the one and only Doc Savage! Doc precedes even Superman as a comic character! I am so happy for you my friend. Congrats for finding a Grail worthy cover!
