DescriptionThis gives me that art collecting high that we're all fiending for. I love this piece, so nostalgia inducing, with a great personal story surrounding my exposure to, and purchase of the print to boot! The SQP/Marvel print set from 1983 that this piece was part of predates my start of collecting by 3 years, and I started with all things Spider-Man. It wasn't until after the 1987 Spider-Man Vs. Wolverine one-shot that I started to read/collect/pay attention to the X-Men. For the duration of my early collecting days my local comic shop had this print framed, along with the other 3 from the set, up behind the counter, and while it kind of looked cool, I didn't know who any of the characters depicted were, only that they weren't my beloved Spidey, so I barely paid it any attention to it, although, it was my favorite of the 4, even knowing nothing of whom was depicted. After the aforementioned Spider-Man Vs. Wolverine one shot though, I started collecting/fell in love with The Uncanny X-Men, and grabbed as many back issues as I could afford. I'm not sure when; but early in those X-Men collecting days I was checking out with my weekly purchases, and with my new found love and knowledge of the characters depicted in this piece, I asked the clerk how much for this print. He seemed to contemplate for a moment, and said $10 each. I really liked the Alpha Flight print, too, and if I had an extra $20 that week I'd of no doubt left with both; however, I was able to afford this one, and figured I could get the other another time. Probably after my next payday, I had a paper route that paid for my collecting habit. A few weeks later I was back getting my comic book fix, getting checked out by the owner this time, and requested the Alpha Flight/X-Men battle print, he looked at me funny, and said, "Are you the one that bought that "Beware The Danger Room" framed print?" I confirmed I was and he went on to grumble about how that wasn't for sale, it was from his personal collection, that the frame alone was worth $10, and lamented how now he doesn't have the complete print set. I offered to bring it back to him; but he declined, despite his obvious annoyance at the whole situation. It was apparent despite not accepting my offer to return the print, he definitely didn't want to sell me the Alpha Flight one too! Anyhow, that's the story of how I acquired the "Beware The Danger Room" print at around 13 years old, and I've had it displayed ever since. Early in my collecting days, circa 2006, I acquired the pencil prelim of this piece, a full size piece, highly detailed with lots of shading, and a beauty in it's own right; but like so many lovely pieces I've owned over the years, I have since parted with it. This assuages that loss, and then some! It is so much better in person then I anticipated! It sold at Heritage in 2014, and a kind collector did let me know, but I was out of work, caring for my grandmother at the time, and couldn't even begin to afford to acquire it. That said, it's recent ending price at Comic Link was pretty much the same as it's 2014 ending price at Heritage, adjusted for inflation that is, so I was doubly stoked about not only winning this beauty, but doing so for what it would of cost me 9 years ago! There is some fading of course, most notably in the fire, and the red of Colossus' costume, but considering the age, it's held up incredibly well... it really looks so good... gonna go ogle it in person some more! So happy for you AND your 13-year old self. What a wonderful full circle moment. I wouldn't be at all surprised if, the next time I see you, that big grin you're wearing in the photo will still be on your face.

I'd be good karma to sell that guy back his frame for $10.

Reach out Steve fastner at steveandrich@fastnerandlarson.com , Send him the painting he's the original painter and have him fix it. It's the Paint he used UV light causes them to fade. It's not gonna hurt the value of the painting, if Steve the original Painter touches it up. Preserve it that's what I would do. Congratulations it's a wonderful pick up

Hmmm, I'll have to think about that. Thanks for sharing the option.
