After Crisis, Matrix, an artificial being, was the only Supergirl in the DC Universe.
Though still mourning the death and obliteration of Kara Zor-El, us Supergirl fans were happy to have any Supergirl again.
Here Matrix recalls her origin.

Fabulous! I love the Superman books from this era, especially the Guice, Grummett, McLeod and Ordway books. A great Supergirl splah you have here!

Though DC took away the "real" Supergirl, they did, as you say, try to give her back to us as much as possible, certainly visually. This page is the best of both worlds, with the new Supergirl much like the old, but with the bonus of the new one's origin. Congrats!

Wonderful opening page from one of my all-time favorite issues of ACTION COMICS ! The Guice/Rodier art on this issue was simply majestic !

I loved that period in Guice's art (more bombastic and gearing towards more realism). That composition is a bit "too much" but it's fun and at the very least he tried something (different).
