Description

Western goodness from Jack Kirby (with Stan adding the words). I'll let you guys weigh in on who did the inks...I have heard from many that George Roussos did them but Mark Evanier told me personally that Jack did the inks here. If Roussos did the inks...they are the best Roussos inks that I have ever seen over Jack's pencils.

This is page 4 from a 4 page story. The other pages are in my CAF gallery.

Interesting to note that Stan had the production person switch panels 1 and 2, and made the dialogue sort of match the change. Problem is, in the reversed panel 1, Brass Buttons shoots the bad guy, and in panel 2, his gun is still in his waistband, while in panel 4 he is shown still holding the gun before he drops it to the ground.

I believe that this 4 page filler story was completely thought up and executed (story and art) by Jack. Stan added the dialogue later. On the splash page Stan didn't give himself the writer credit (which he typically did when this was published in 1963). I also believe that those are Stan's blue marker comments over the barely visible Kirby pencil story notes.

Great page! The writing in blue ink might be Sol Brodsky's. It looks a bit to legible to be Stan's.
