DescriptionAn absolutely gorgeous and masterful set of head sketches in black fine liner on both sides of thin cartridge paper. Unmistakably Kane. In my opinion, as good as a Michelangelo. My favourite piece by this incredible artist which shows the graft he puts in as a true craftsman. Large size - 28 x 43cm. In my permanent collection, believe it. Social/Sharing |

Yes.. This is one to be proud to have. You see the talent and the work that he put into his art. He always has been one of my favorite artists and this is a great piece of evidence on Kane's brilliance. Even his practice sketches rock.

Thanks for stopping by to show the Kane love, David! I couldn't agree more - for me, Kane ranks right up there with Kirby, Ditko, Big John Buscema and Neal Adams as one of the greatest draughtsmen in comics history. There is no-one to match him for sheer dynamic storytelling, and sketch sheets like this show he knows his drawing from the inside out.

Gil Kane's known for his scholarly anatomy and these heads are just as well studied here as a work from Hogarth.

Well said, Marcus. I've always loved Kane's dynamic figures, and it's a pleasure to see how much craft & knowledge goes into every angle in his heads and expressions. I feel very lucky to have come across this piece!
