Description

Anyone remember Texas Comics? You would have to have a good memory, as they lasted one issue. But, boy was it a memorable one. They had planned to bring out a bimonthly Justice Machine series, but in the end only produced one comic, the Justice Machine Annual. This, however, was significant because it contained the first appearance of Bill Willingham 's Elementals, as well as a crossover between the Justice Machine and the THUNDER Agents, a famous 1960s superhero team originally published by Tower Comics. The Elementals was an adult, dark themed superhero book. One of the many independent titles in the 80’s that sprouted up seemingly overnight. Most failed, but after Texas Comics folded, Comico Comics picked up both books and the Elementals ran for over 10 years.

This piece was the inside back cover of that first appearance issue. It’s a huge piece, measuring larger than 2x up art. It’s all about the nostalgia for me on this one.

I've pursued this piece a few times but it eluded me. I recently acquired a page from their first appearance to fill that void though. Congrats on this Great piece!

I think I have all the Comico books, but you got me with this one.  Then again, I was buying up all of the indie books back then, so if it hit the shops, I probably picked it up.  Would have to do some deep diving into my storage to find out though.  Anyway, a rare book and an even rarer piece.  A nice, nostalgic, novelty.  Congrats buddy!

The Willingham design is simple and effective showing the Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water concepts for their debut.

The Justice Machine Annual was not the easiest comic book to find back in the day, but I remember being really excited about the Comico series, and this is a fabulous image of the team.

My envy knows no bounds. Exceptional piece that holds a special place for a small but mighty group of us. Congrats on this one.

What is so amazing is how well defined these 4 were from go. Bill really knew who these characters were from the very beginning.
