DescriptionI purchased these three pieces off eBay recently and was very happy no one chose to bid on any of them. So, I bought the two most detailed pieces for myself, and was able to work out a deal to get the third for a pretty fair price. The story is, these three pieces were part of a set design concept series for a Count Chocula, Franken-Berry, and Yummy-Mummy cereal ads in the later 80's (1987+). Now, if there'd been a Franken-Berry character somewhere in the art, I'm sure they'd have sold for more, as I'd think anything "Franken*" by Bernie Wrightson would do great... He stated the pieces were used to create the open/close sequence for these spots, and has even been nice enough to offer a video of the clips/commercials. Alas, none of the actual cereal characters are in the art, but still I think some fairly detailed examples of Wrightson's work in the later 80's and I didn't really have anything structural in appearance. I'll get better pics outside the frames when they arrive. The pieces are supposed to be quite large, and I'd like to open them up and replace the matting if they are too faded, and make sure the art is properly matted for preservation. Update: 4/29/2013 This is a much more beautiful piece in person than it appeared behind the glass on eBay. The detail in the piece and the coverage on this 14 x 17 paper is gorgeous, and a photograph only begins to capture the beauty. Just too cool... Now, I'm going to have to decide how best to Frame and Mat this! Update 5/17/2013: Decided to keep this simple too... May come back and add some V-Grooves, but once I received this I realized it had just been placed directly on a mat board. Well, that needed to be redone to preserve the piece. Fortunately, the framer had put glass standoff in the frame, which kept the glass from lying directly again the art. But now, the art is preserved with acid-free surroundings, the glass is clean, and the art can be seen as it was meant to be. Unfortunately, this being such deep pencils, there's a reflection to light... Now what to do with the other two? Social/Sharing |
