DescriptionMy most recent addition thanks to Liz and Bernie... Ok, my title wasn't exactly Bernie's, but I cleaned it up a bit for the kids... (His title is in the art)... :)When I first saw "The Thing" way back when, on the marquis was John Carpenter's "The Thing" or some movie about a cute little alien they called E.T. At 22 years of age, I I had zero interest in a cute little alien... But, "The Thing", updated from B & W and starring Kurt Russell in his prime. Of course, "I wanna see blood and guts and gore and veins in my teeth", to quote a favorite lyric... And that's just what I got, a truly epic science fiction romp which still entertains today, given there were zero digital graphics to be had at the time! Just good ole' special effects... Anyway, when I saw Liz put this up, I just had to have it. It's on tracing paper, but I'll take good care and get it packaged up safely until I can get it behind glass and framed to preserve. My wife has already said we can't have it hanging in the living room. I can't see why not??? Anyone who's ever seen this movie, has to remember this little creature and Palmer's exclamation when he saw this walking abomination of a head... In my opinion, Wrightson nailed this one to a tee and must have been a favorite scene of his as well. Thanks again Liz!!! :) Enjoy!!! Update: Having noticed the June 2013 date, I asked Liz about the origin of this and it turns out Bernie did this as a donation for an auction which occurred at the Heroes Convention. The finished piece at auction was actually inked by Scott Hampton. Liz told me "Bernie chose this scene just because he was in the mood to do it at the time! :-)" Not only a fantastic artist, but the ability to choose an older classic memorable scene and then just render it to paper is just too cool... Myself, I'm very happy to have this and though it was done on tracing paper, it's just outstanding the way it makes the penciled art just jump from the page. With a pure white acid-free backing, I'm sure it will be quite a standout when framed!!! Update: 10/24/2013 Today I got a very nice email from Liz informing me of the finished colored piece going up on eBay for auction. Of course in just the few minutes after following the link, it went from $510 to $1525, I think I may have to be happy owning the prelim, which is good for me being primarily interested in Bernie's work. Sadly, this piece is being auctioned to assist in support Steve Niles who has recently been involved in a home flood. I can't speak for his experience, but I can attest to the my own after going through a flood in Augusta, KS in 1998. 31" on the main floor and the basement became an indoor pool. If you've never been through a flood, consider yourself fortunate, it is a terrible experience! God bless the Niles! Update 11/1/2017 Although I've yet to receive my copy, I was approached by Steve at Printed in Blood several months back, with a request to use this piece as the dedication page for "The Thing - Artbook" which was put together as a tribute to John Carpenter's - "The Thing". After receiving gracious permission from Liz, I sent high-resolution pictures of this art piece to the publisher and just saw my first glimpse of the dedication page yesterday. I've included the image of the page Jonh Coulthart had on his review page in my additional images for your review. One of the most memorable moments of the film and a brilliant design by Bernie. Congrats! It couldn't have found a more appreciative home.

Great pencil piece by the master, in fact it seems more suitable for the dining room... Bon appétit! :)
