DescriptionPurchased from George Hagenauer in September 2012, this rare painting by Dave Stevens is a marvelous example of Dave channeling Bill Elder's LITTLE ANNIE FANNY. 18" x 24". George picked up this painting specifically for me in a trade deal with Steve Morger, when Steve learned of a piece that George had that was high on his want list. George likewise was angling for a wonderful piece of artwork that he needed cash for... So, smiles all around! In 1984 a movie called UP THE CREEK was released starring Tim Matheson (THE WEST WING), Jennifer Runyon, Steven Furst (BABYLON 5; ST. ELSEWHERE), James B. Sikking (HILL STREET BLUES), John Hillerman (MAGNUM, P.I.) and a great many others. According to IMDB, the plot is, "Bob McGraw is in his 12th year of college, goofing his way through life. Bob, Irwing, Gonzer and Max are the four losers forced and bribed to represent their university in an intercollegiate raft race. Forced and bribed into this role, they make some friends, the lovely Heather Merriweather, but mostly enemies, among others a whole team of marines, and preppy Ivy-leaguers determined to win." According to my friend Kelvin Mao, who works with the Stevens estate, "I know it was definitely used for something because Dave showed me a printed version of it. The movie was initially called 'Rafts' and he showed me a magazine-sized slick ad piece. It folded open to the sides and there were circles cut-out on the girl's chest that he said were for photos of the cast to show through." The additional images are: 1) the more commonly used movie poster (not by Dave), 2) a preliminary drawing (which I do not own) for the movie art, 3) a promotional fold-out which shows how the art was to be used (thanks to Kelvin Mao for the scan!) A great find! Congrats your new Stevens gem. I actually remember seeing this movie at the drive-in back in the 80's.

Great finished Stevens piece! Fun painting, looks like Annie Fanny "the movie"! And how fitting - the blonde actress is related to Roger Corman, by marriage.

Looks like Little Annie Gannie with her hair down! Also love the bear and woods and the Frazetta-esque colors.
