DescriptionWho’d have thought three weirdoes having a chat in a radioactive desert would make for one of the greatest episodes of ‘Judge Dredd’ ever? Of course, one of those weirdoes is the acid-scarred Dead Man and one of the others is a certain notable and almost unrecognisable figure (who, at the time of publication, hadn’t been seen in four-and-a-half long years), so maybe the sheer brilliance of this episode isn’t so surprising after all. What comes as no surprise is the amazing talent of Carlos Ezquerra – these scans hardly do justice to the sheer vibrancy of his colours, something that really has to be witnessed in person. For my money, ‘Necropolis’ is one of the artistic highpoints of the Andorran master’s career, and some of the most atmospheric work ever published in 2000AD.Thanks to Carlos Ezquerra for selling these pages, and thanks also to Julius Howe for arranging it.
