Description

Graphite on comic art board. Purchased from The Gentleman himself, 1999. Gene Colan was a true original who, along with Jack Kirby, pioneered the splashy, bold, swaggering visual style that distinguished Marvel comics from the rest of the pack in the 60's, 70's and beyond. You could feel the energy flowing from Gene's hand onto the page in his action sequences. Unmatched brilliance, greatly missed.

Always nice to see a pin up from Gene in his prime, especially one I don't remember from then. You can see how much he loved drawing, and how cinematic he made it. Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Such imagination, and the skill to realize it. Gene could do the tangible and intangible equally well: the massive machinery and molten liquid here (or mist or fog or flames in other cases). Love the foreshortening in this, too. Who needs 3D movies? Gene could do great 3D with just his pencil.
