DescriptionWho doesn’t love free art?
About the artwork. This is an absolutely stunning Spider-man piece by my buddy Jonathan Wayshak. My understanding is that this was an underdrawing for an unpublished trading card (see prelim in Additional Images). Now I’m no artist (I don’t paint, draw, or anything), but this looks really too finished to be an underdrawing. I mean, I just can’t imagine anyone putting this much work into a drawing, and then just covering it all up with paint. Anyway, whatever it is, it’s insanely good. Love the linework, the texture, the detail, the perspective, the depth of field, and of course just the fact that it’s my favorite comic character. And yes, I also love the fact that it was free. But that just goes to the character of the person who gave it to me. I know I sound like a broken record, but he really is as nice as he is talented. And you all see just how talented he is. So thanks Jon! It’s been a true privilege to both watch you grow as an artist, AND to call you a friend, these past 15 years. Social/Sharing |

Sorry for the confusion. There are actually two pieces. The finished underdrawing and the pencil/blueline prelim in the Additional Images. I love the perspective as well. Thanks for the comment.

Great perspective and talent from your friend Jonathan Wayshak. It definitely feels finished and the line/ink work is beautifully done. Very cool that it was a gift as well. Congrats!

Wayshak takes the familiar and comes up with an unexpected take! Spidey with an indie sensibility that stresses his rubbery flexibility and a sticky palm!

Love how the forced perspective gives you a sense of the dizzying heights
