DescriptionSimply put, a masterpiece from one of the greatest pen and ink artists ever, Franklin Booth. Large art for a Booth -- approximately 11 1/2" x 10 1/2". The back story: in 1965, a close friend of Booth's, Clarence Thorpe, walked into an antique store in Southern California and traded this art for a piece of furniture. The owner of the shop kept this piece for herself for over 45 years, until now. The art is double signed (it is signed to Clarence from Booth on the lower right corner, below the art), and I am just the third owner. Anyone who knows Booth knows that his best pieces simply do not come onto the open market. So, when I saw this art come up for auction, my heart skipped a beat. I bid a crazy number, won, and couldn't possibly be happier. . .Social/Sharing |

I could cite a dozen sterile technical aspects Booth employed in glorious harmony to create this work, but their cumulative effect is so much more visceral. Magnificent!.....simply Magnificent!

Wow. Just when you start to feel knowledgeable about the world around you - life simply and elegantly reminds you of just how much history and depth this planet has created. Thirty minutes ago I had no idea who this artist was - and this piece has given me a history lesson, a lesson in the art world, and a visual treat that is up there with seeing Venice at night. Thanks for sharing this piece. Its beautiful.

Booth is a fantastic artist. The time it took to do this must have been insane. The only comparable is Wrightson with his Frankenstien work. Congratulations on being the caretaker for this CLASSIC piece of FINE art.

I am in awe! What a phenomenal pen and ink drawing by Franklin Booth! I am absolutely blown away by the mastery Booth demonstrates on this page. It's almost unbelievable to me that any artist could draw so many parallel lines like these without ever touching the other lines. The amount of control Booth shows on this page is simply jaw-dropping. All those female characters floating in the sky--Angels or whatever they are--are all drawn free hand! The long winding, floating drapery is equally remarkable. And the other figures--like the men on horseback flying across the sky--are also drawn perfectly. To be honest, it's hard to imagine any artist doing what Franklin Booth does here. I am awe struck! Fabulous pick-up, my congratulations!
