Description

From 1970, right around the start of peak Aparo. This is the climactic moment of a completely tripped out, socially conscious, three issue arc composed of three 13 page Aquaman episodes by Steve Skeates and Aparo, interlinked with three 7 page Deadman backups by Neal Adams. I won't attempt to synopsize the whole story, but what's happening here is that Aquaman has been trapped in a microscopic world inside Mera's ring, and Deadman has figured out (via a completely different interdimensional adventure) where he is and has subliminally influenced Mera to concentrate on Aquaman really hard and...voila!
This page illustrates what I think was the core psychological attraction of the DC superheroes for adolescent boys in the late Silver age: the bodies and psyches of the heroes, like those of the readers, were constantly being put through shocking and unpredictable changes. Despite Aquaman's stunning growth spurt here, he still ends up wrapped around the little finger of a woman. Sigh.
