DescriptionI was surprised to see that Mark Hay still had this page in his inventory, given how pivotal it is to this gripping story taking place at the outskits of the Criminalverse. Imminent violence to be visited upon one of the two central characters off-screen transitions to Angela dealing with her guilt. The image of her exiting through the dark passageway to the lower panels is a terrific device. I love the juxtaposition of silhouettes and thin lines throughout the book. I also love the mild narration completely unrelated to the heavy goings on, which survived in many parts of the finished story, but the captions on this page were replaced with a lone word balloon in the bottom panel (see additional image) setting up the next page (another beauty someone beat me to...). The way Phillips draws Angela with the hunched shoulders and vacant stare contrasts with her cocky and care-free posture & expressions earlier in the book. You heard it here first, but Brubaker and Phillips know how to tell a story. This page is larger than 11"x17", so it doesn't fit on my scanner and I wound up taking a phone photo. Very nice looking page. I haven't read the book myself, but I'm not surprised it was still available, as in a hobby predominantly dominated by superhero collectors, a lot of great non-superhero art gets ignored.

The smallest panel being the pivot is such a great device. It's a bit off center too and leads the eye towards the story shift.
