DescriptionI'm very excited, because this week my theme is "Significant Spidey events."I'd like to kick things off with this page from Amazing Spider-Man #239 featuring the first meet & battle between Spider-Man and the Hobgoblin. There is a certain kind of magic involved with Spidey meeting a brand new foe (especially a major one) for the first time, which is illustrated nicely with this page. There is the initial confusion (Okay, who are you?), which leads to the villainous displays of power that Spidey has to quickly digest and learn how to deflect. The Hobgoblin is first revealed during the last four pages of Amazing Spider-Man #238. Issue #239 continues with more raids on Osborn labs by the mysterious Hobgoblin, plus story threads involving the Black Cat, Madame Web, Lance Bannon, and the very sexy Amy Powell. Eventually a suspicious Spidey decides to investigate one remaining lair of the Green Goblin. In the very last panel of the page preceding mine, Spidey bursts through a window of that lair to find a surprised Hobgoblin (see additional pic). Then all hell breaks loose on the page I have posted. Thanks for looking! And stay tuned for more significant Spidey events to come! Social/Sharing |

Not every day that you get a first time match up with one of Spidey's major villains. Especially one that's almost 40 years old. Congrats on a very significant pick up.

Oh man, I cannot even begin to describe all the great memories seeing this page evokes. My first issue of ASM when I began reading and collecting comics was #238 and it was give to me as part of a Christmas gift by my sister. I was immediately hooked and then began buying it monthly starting with this issue. So great!

OK. There are pieces of yours where I'm jealous, Paul, and there are pieces where I'm JEALOUS. So cool to see here, man! You surprise me at times with these these older gems. But I should know not to be surprised by now :) Love every panel here, and SO historic! My first Spidey comics were in the 250s but I went back and found this one soon after. GG is the OG (original goblin) but I also, to this day, LOVE the Hobgoblin update. They could do so much neat stuff with that hood, like in panel 1 here. And the first battle vs. Spidey?! Too good, my friend. Big congrats!

Hobgoblin! This was an awesome intro, I remember it well. Even the Spidey banter in this page is on point. Awesome pick up! Congrats

OH MY GOD!! THE HITS KEEP COMING! A Jr. Jr Hobgoblin page?!?!? The ol Rod-Goblin is my favorite Spidey nemesis. I would love to own a page featuring him from the JR Jr run but know I could never afford it so I have to push that desire deep down.
