Description

This is a Bronze Age Gene Colan splash featuring Moon Knight, a character that has picked up a lot of steam in recent years. It comes from Moon Knight's first on-going series, which appeared in The Hulk, a magazine-sized publication previously known at Rampaging Hulk. Moon Knight was only a few years old when this story appeared, as the character was introduced in 1975's Werewolf By Night #32. This issue is now one of the hottest issues of the Bronze Age thanks to growing interest in the character. Moon Knight has had several solo series over the years, including recent critically acclaimed runs by writers Brian Bendis and Warren Ellis that have expanded the fan base for the character. It seems like only a matter of time until Moon Knight is introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character would fit in very well with the expanding Netflix sub-universe of darker Marvel characters.

This art has an image area of approximately 10" X 15".

”GRAVEN IMAGE OF DEATH!” Script: Doug Moench | Art: Gene Colan & Tony Dezuniga (issue 11).

Synopsis: After witnessing the death of Sun-Times features writer Jim Polhaus, Moon Knight confronts murderer, who shows him he was trying to acquire a key. He is led to the mansion of collector Joel Luxor, but during questioning, Luxor is shot and killed by a pellet from an old musket. Moon Knight asks Marlene to look for more clues at Luxor's house while he, deducing the key came from a locker at the Sun-Times newspaper, finds out the key was owned by Polhaus, who was working on a story about Egyptian artifacts at the natural history museum. The artifacts are under the personal care of assistant curator Fenton Crane, specifically a gold Horus statuette. After visiting the museum and Crane's apartment where he finds the earlier hitman who turns out to be rival collector Anton Varro. He tells Moon Knight that Crane was Luxor's hitman, sending him rushing back to Luxor's house to find Crane threatening Marlene with the old musket.

Although I had the backup Moonknight story run in Hulk, I had no idea Colan ever drew the dark character - this is killer! Wow.
