Description

This amazing Virgil Finlay illustration is from the novella "Strange Compulsion" by Philip Jose Farmer. It appeared in the pages of Science Fiction Plus - October 1953. It is worth mentioning that this is one of the largest single page Finlay b&w illustrations that I have ever seen. It measures 8.5 x 11.5 inches, whereas most single page Finlays are in the 5x7 inch range. Thus, it is quite impressive! Also used as the cover of the 2018 Sci-Fi Art of Virgil Finlay Wall Calendar pictured above.

People throw the word Master and it's not used enough when talking about Virgil Finlay's work but this man was truly a Master at his craft!!!
