DescriptionMy DC theme week continues with this beautiful 1982 cover by Rich Buckler and Dick Giordano.Definitely one of my favorite Batman covers from this era. Thanks to Mirage's mysterious wrist beam, a stunned Batman suddenly finds himself both in the city at night and a rural hillside in the middle of the day! Has Batman been transported to another place entirely, or is it merely illusion? I love the contrast between the city and pastoral backgrounds. Social/Sharing |

Not that Buckler ever needed any help, but Dick's inks sure does look purdy. Great Batman cover.

Buckler was using the Neal Adams playbook for figurework and Giordano was more than willing to ink in that same manner!

THIS IS SUCH A GEM!! As an aspiring young artist at the time, I spent hours looking at Buckler's figure work. I'm itching to get a pencil in my hand just looking at this, and I haven't been slightly interested in drawing anything in over a dozen years. See what his work does to a person!?!?

Buckler and Giordano made for a great combination. The figurework and posing are fabulously dynamic! Beautiful stuff from a favourite period of Batman's history.

the reality here is that this is an awesome cover, but that pose on Batman is eerily similar to many poses I've seen Dr. Strange do on Marvel covers...so perhaps the illusion has yet to be revealed by the master of mystic arts!

Haha. Regardless, I'd say Paul should donate the cover to either of us. That's the right and honorable thing to do.

Maybe I'll pull a "Solomon" and say I can't decide who gets it, so I'll just have to cut it in half. And he who begs that the cover be given whole to his rival shall be the rightful owner!! ... Or I'll just keep it myself haha!😆

Gotta love how the lettering is incorporated into the image...I really dig that in older pieces, especially covers. Congrats!
