Ceasar's ghost, this is a great-looking page! It was so exciting to see a couple of pages from this excellent issue up for grabs. I'm glad one of them landed in your collection Steve.

Leialoha did a great job on this issue inking Colan! Would have liked to have seen more from that team.

Wonderful Colan DD page! This story arc made a huge impression on me back in '78 and got me hooked on DD. Thanks for posting the intriguing drawing on the reverse!

Always liked this page. This was the first issue Steve inked with a brush, and in fact, every line was done with a brush, he told me. That drawing on back would probably just be him riffing -- lots of pages he inked have extensive stuff going on on the flipside. The Colan/Leialoha Howard pages often have weird characters on their reverses.

I know that some people would crucify me for making these comments but I have always been lackadaisical about most of Colan's DD works. I felt that he didn't reach his peak of his artistic prowess yet with the earlier issues. This one is different. When I saw this page on auction, I thought this one truly captures Colan at his A game. Plus I love the Gladiator. Congrats on this score Kro!
