DescriptionCarmine Infantino! Enough said.Carmine has always been one of my favorite Batman artists not only for artistic reasons, but also for nostalgic and personal reasons. Batman #166 was the first Batman comic that I ever read or purchased. I found it in an antique store for $2 and snatched it up as a 10 year old kid. I remember analyzing that "Two-Way Deathtrap" cover until it was burned into my mind and that iconic image has never left my memory. That cover still does it for me. Classic Infantino. I got into collecting comics soon after that and I started with Norm Breyfogle's (then) current run on Batman beginning with issue #457. As I continued to pick up the new issues, I was fortunate as a kid to find a comic shop that had a great supply of back issues and each week I would go to the shop and pick up one or two more back issues of Batman, Detective and Brave and the Bold. I spent countless hours reading and flipping through my Batman back issues and I somehow realized even at a very young age how important Carmine Infantino was to the development of Batman. This piece is a far cry from Carmine's iconic Batman of the '60s, but it is a beautiful example of the character by a legendary artist. I love this early '90s version! Dated July of 1991, this DC licensing art is penciled by Infantino and inked by the equally legendary Dick Giordano. Beautiful, clean inks on this one.
