DescriptionI started out 2016 with my first Art Adams piece, 2017 with my first Keown, so thought I’d keep the theme going by opening up 2018 with my first Quesada piece! I’m stoked to add this to the collection and I’ve gotta thank fellow CAFer Michael Warren for giving me first crack. I inquired a long time ago and he never forgot!I’ve wanted a nice page from this arc for a while, but to no one’s surprise, there hasn’t been much availability. This book launched the Marvel Knights line and introduced a lot of people, including myself, to Quesada and Palmiotti’s work. A big draw was obviously Kevin Smith writing it, and he did a great job, but what I’ll remember most was how GOOD this book looked. I remember seeing the cover to issue #1 and thinking “that might be the best Daredevil image I’ve seen” (I have “The Marvel Art of Joe Quesada” book and a pic show’s Quesada’s got the original art for that cover framed on his wall). The storytelling is top notch and Quesada’s got some of the best figure work. On this page I love how the trademark larger feet and thicker fingers are on display :) Palmiotti’s inks are so dark and crisp, and just as important, the coloring was on another level, particularly in this whole sequence (see additional image). We all know that a defining trait of DD is his superhuman hearing, so it’s cool to see that being exploited here by the bad guy. Love the splashy image on the left with the big DD emblem followed by some of that storytelling I mentioned earlier! Thanks for looking, and I hope all of your new years are starting off right! Quesada’s run on Daredevil brought me back to the character back in the day, and this is a bold & beautiful example from that run, congrats!

Love those crisp details. Less is sometimes much more. Here is that example.

Incredible half splash page K! Having DD in every panel is spectacular and like you said, a great example of a villain using Matt's abilities against him. Congrats on snagging this Quesada piece from the Smith run!

Great page man!!! So much love for this arc. it was my introduction to Daredevil!!!! Would love to see Joe draw the character again even if it was just a short story.

I hear you there, David. Such bold inks and crisp lines, plus the minimal to no background drives a simple yet effective overall image, which you know was deliberate - sometimes less is more :) You can see they decided to add that wavy, dizzying effect in color production, which I'd say was the right choice! Appreciate the comment from a big DD fan (I mean, it's in your CAF handle!), as well as all others over the last couple of years! I still LOVE this piece!

A great page from a classic run. Did you ever get the feeling that Quesada was channeling Ed McGuinness for a brief time during this period? I felt his style moving in that direction, you know, with the big feet & fingers which indicated a more cartoony, exagerrated approach.

Y'know, fair question, as far as the exaggeration observation. I never saw that, though. McGuinness had that super muscle bound look, which was cool in its own right, so I don't think I connected that with Quesada as I didn't see that in his work. I've heard, though, artists say that the face and hands/fingers really show the expressiveness and emotions and I wonder if that may have been part of it. Doesn't explain the feet, though :) Thanks, Ruben!

This page alone would make the year for most collectors and you picked it up as a first page! So unbelievably cool.
