DescriptionSome more early ‘90s Spidey goodness, this one by one of the character’s main artists of the time, Alex Saviuk!Overall just a fun action page with something to look at in every panel! The 2 adversaries face off in panel 1, then in panel 2, Dragon Man doing...what a dragon does. A fed up, yet cosmic powered Pete (see that right hand?!), in panel 3 then whips up a new Spidey costume in panel 4. Really a nice flow from top to bottom capped off by a sweet splashy shot of the wall crawler seemingly charging up his newfound Uni-Power! Always nice to add another Saviuk Web piece - a lot of his work is ingrained in my head from reading Web as a kid! Social/Sharing |

Great looking page! I especially like the fact that it's from Saviuk's first run on the book because he was still drawing in his own style. I still really enjoyed the title later on, but wasn't as big a fan of seeing the "Come on Alex, make it look more like McFarlane!" style as I was of seeing the work look like his own. These pages from his first run also turn up far less frequently too, so I appreciate seeingthis even more!

I actually had asked Alex about this and, as you say, once McFarlane blew up on ASM, his way of drawing Spidey became the house style. I enjoyed Alex's entire run, but I agree with you, I dug his stuff prior to the McFarlane mandate more. His natural style is definitely more in that JRSR realm! Thanks, man, and all, for the comments!

I agree with Ruben, this page is pure Alex Saviuk. And what a great battle sequence, featuring the cosmically powered Spider-Man (which was a wonderful story line). Kind of funny thinking about having your costume burned off multiple times during a battle. That would become annoying after a while, wouldn't it.

Yeah, I'd think so! Luckily (and interestingly!) enough I think the mulitple suit burn offs may have only happened when he was able to literally whip up a new one out of thin air :) Cosmic Spidey was definitely a fun and unique Spidey storyline. Thanks for the comment, Paul - I know you like you some Alex Saviuk Web work as well!

I will always have a special place for cosmic Spidey. Might be my favorite gimmick of the era.

It was a little gimmicky, wasn't it? But all good! No negative connotation there! Hey, with serialized fiction, I say go for it if you can make a good story, even if the idea may be a little out there :) Thanks for the comment, PJM!

Ha ha, fair point, John! In any case it looks like he whipped up a new costume pretty quick :) Thanks, as always, man - always appreciate the chuckle I get from your comments!
