DescriptionMoving from the late '80s to the early '90s here! Few weeks ago posted a Red Wolf title splash from MCU #15 from March 1989 (https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1934828). Here's another title splash, from MCU #72, published 2 years later in March 1991. Same creative team continuing same story! Red Wolf honors his wolf companion Lobo, lost at the hands of Bengal. But he starts here with lamenting other past wrongs. By issue's end, he may have found a new companion.Just a cool title splash, and a helluva way to open up the story, with Red Wolf taking a more ceremonial reflective moment. Like the splash I posted a few weeks back, I dig the scene setting, and the Native imagery as part of it. Also some great inks, showcasing the light source coming from the fire. Lastly, you gotta love title splash lettering - got both the character's name and the story title here! Definitely happy to have both of these pieces. And coincidentally, check out the cover to this book in the additional images. Got Red Wolf in the top left corner box, but the main cover image starts another character’s MCP arc that ends up being…fairly important :) Social/Sharing |

Beautifully composed, front-lit title splash!
And from the first appearance of Weapon X book too!

Another gorgeous title splash from Saltares. Love the perspective used, and the totems send it over the top!

Poignant scene and composition, inspiring to both the 90s kids and 2020s adults in us!

Nice one! Those MCP were a great way to feature some of the lesser known characters back then.

We are, we are, we are
Art day on a comicon night, Monahsetah
Custer and a kid comes out
Nineteen nineties and their Tsistsistas
War party's on, so they're headin' downtown
Everybody's lookin' this a come up
And they wanna know Red Wolf’s about
Me in the Marvel with the art I'm lovin'
We're just tryna figure everything out
We don't fit he tells
'Cause we are Flesh ourselves
I could use some help
Gettin' splash of this Presentation, yeah
Your wolf’s stunning, dear
So don't ask that Javier
This is my only fear, that we become (hey)
Beautiful people

Way cool, that Red Wolf collection of yours is pretty epic - and this one from such an iconic issue of MCP too!

Thanks, man, it's coming together! Got more comin' so stay tuned. Definitely been on a RW kick, along with the more standard BP gets :) And yes - funny that it's this issue of MCP! I actually won this piece on Heritage, and didn't realize until shortly before I won it that it was this book. "Maybe I should look at the cover?" Lol. Definitely a nice lil' bonus!

Saltares sets an incredible scene here, combining the serenity of Red Wolf with those super imposing totems. And yeah, all those title stats and text rectangles complete the page so nicely. But, Weapon X? Never heard of it. Haha!

Bengal killed Lobo!? Lobo's dead?
Yup, he did. Sort of a long story, but read the 2 RW features in MCP 15 and 72 and you'll get it. But, on the last page of the 72 story, we end up getting a potential replacement :)

Wow, I was still reading MCP in those days but have no memory of that whatsoever. Though I suppose I may just have blown it off as "Now they're even 'killing' the pet sidekicks?" and assumed he wouldn't actually be "dead".

What an amazing, atmospheric splash page! Javier is a great and underrated talent. This splash makes me want to read the rest of the comic. Congratulations!

Great looking splash! The quality of the art is such that it can easily stand side-by-side with the issue's cover feature.
