Description

1st appearance of DEVIL-SLAYER!

Great page featuring Deathlok and Devil-Slayer (Eric Simon Payne) from the 1977 story "(Don't Fear) The Reaper!" This issue was originally intended to be Astonishing Tales #37 (which continued from Astonishing Tales #36 and led into Marvel Two-In-One #27). There is a splash page dedication in this issue to the band Blue Oyster Cult for the title of this story.

Devil-Slayer is a character that actually appeared in his first incarnation as Demon-Hunter (Gideon Cross) in the Atlas/Seaboard comic of the same name in 1975. He was created by Rich Buckler, who brought him to Marvel Spotlight #33 in 1977. There was even a third version by Buckler that appeared in the small press magazine Galaxia #1 in 1981 called Bloodwing. There was also a second issue of the magazine, which was never published, with another Bloodwing story.
