DescriptionWELCOME TO THE FIRST INSTALLMENT OF "MIGHTY SPIDEY FRIDAY!"Each Friday for the next 6 months, I will post two pieces that feature Spider-Man, usually grouped together by artist (and sometimes story-line). There might be a couple times where I expand into other members of the Spider-Man Family, like Spider-Girl, but mostly it'll be old Web-Head himself. I'm starting with a BANG with two covers by Joe Quesada. This cover was a sort of "Where's Waldo" experience for me, or like one of those psychedelic op art pieces from the '60s. Each viewing brought more clarity as I gradually separated the characters out from the insane background detail. When I first glanced at it in the 2014 ComicLink auction in which it was featured, I thought "What a great Spider-Man vs Venom cover!" Then I looked more closely. "Hey, wait a minute. Is that Doc Ock and Hobgoblin bringing up the rear?" Then later I noticed that Spidey was chasing the Lizard. And lastly, I was thrilled to pick out Carnage from all the craziness. I was so excited when I was able to grab it. Please enjoy, and stay tuned for next Friday's "Might Spidey" posting! The following was given as a special note in the auction item description (to clarify that the piece is indeed inks over original pencils as there was apparently some question about that): Original pencils and remnants of erased pencils can be seen throughout the piece upon close examination. Additionally, the consignor of this item brought the piece to San Diego Comic Con this past summer, 2014, and states that Quesada confirmed that his original pencils were rendered on this board. Note that the piece is recently signed by Quesada in the lower margin and dated 2014. Social/Sharing |

This is absolutely one of my favorite Spidey images. I've loved this cover since I first saw it pop up at the comic stands. Great renditions of each character, and I like most that it exudes so much energy! I always thought "Man, Spidey looks ready to throw down!" Quesada at his best. Congrats!

Genius!! This is one of my two favorite Wizard covers- ALL TIME! The layout, specifically the attention to depth, on this piece is super complex and speaks to how well Quesada and Miki work together. So much to look at!!

You can't really ask for more. Spidey and some excellent key villains in battle mode. This was done really well by JQ and JP.

Holy shit! I don't know how I missed this! I can't believe it's been here on CAF for several years while I've been waiting quietly to see if it ever hit the market! Mind you, I could've got it for around $5k back when I first started looking for it and it's now worth 8x-10x that amount. But man, it's great to finally see it appear. Thanks so much for sharing it, Paul!
