I picked up this page on eBay not because I have any special attachment to the material but because it was a steal. Still, I've always enjoyed Sean Chen's clean style. He's always proven to be a solid storyteller, and I have a fondness especially for his work on Iron Man more than a decade ago.

Once the page arrived in the mail, I was thrilled. While I knew it featured several characters from the supporting cast of the Superman books, but what's great about this page was something that wasn't mentioned in the eBay listing. On the back of the board, one can see that Chen roughed out his layouts for the page in reverse and obviously used those rough pencils lines as a guide, no doubt with a lightbox.

It's also an old-school board in that it has the lettering right on the page. As someone who loves to see as many aspects of the process on a page of original comic art as possible, I always prefer it when the letters -- captions, balloons, SFX -- are included.

It really is a very nice page and you really can't go wrong with a page inked by Brett Breeding ! The man can make anyone's pencils look amazing (not to say that Sean Chen's pencils weren't great to begin with as they were, only that with Breeding on inks they shine even more than usual).

An excellent point, Gal. Breeding was a big part of the Superman creative team in the early 1990s, when it hit a peak of popularity with the Death of Superman.
