DescriptionThe capstone Miracleman page to a journey that began a long time ago for what was once Mike Moran. The fifteenth issue of Miracleman marked the final battle between Miracleman (‘MM’) and Kid Miracleman (‘KM’) – and it’s truly the final one because MM kills KM. Not accidentally and certainly not in a way where KM could be brought back to life in typical comic book fashion. This is the end of the line for them as opponents as MM crushes his head in his hands – about as final as it gets. Why?Well, KM’s killing spree that destroys London and leads to the death of a good portion of the city’s inhabitants certainly seems like a great place to start. The story displays a shocking level of violence by KM as he reemerges from years of abuse in a boy’s home while in the form of his alter-ego, Johnny Bates. Now he’s back…and he’s literally unhinged. So much so that everything that MM, Miraclewoman, Firedrake and the Warpsmiths have is not enough to stop him without resorting to the extremes. In his dying moments, the Warpsmith Aza Chorn teleports a chunk of debris and a steel girder into KM, forcing him to transform back to Johnny Bates to escape the pain. And MM takes care of things from there, murdering young Bates’s to finally stop him. MM realizes it is his only option – and there’s a certain kind of irony in a supposedly god-like person having to resort to the most extreme violence to achieve his ends. The story is titled ‘Nemesis’, an obvious reference to KM being MM’s nemesis…but also a likely reference to the Greek goddess who would show her wrath to any human being that was arrogant to the gods. She was characterized as remorseless. And given the way this page plays out, you have to think that Alan Moore wanted us to apply the title of ‘Nemesis’ to both Kid Miracleman…and Miracleman himself. As memorable-- and devastating-- a comics page as it gets.

I have always thought that Moores work on Marvelman is far superior to Watchmen. Funny how they squashed all the carnage into so few pages. Marvel would have done a 20 to 30 issue crossover.

I saw the thumbnail and I openly said, "Oh my God!" Literally and figuratively, one of the most impactful pages in comic book reading history. Totleben's painstakingly detailed art on this issue is legendary.

Climatic high point of the entire series in story and artistry. Emotionally rewarding for those who were able to stick with the title from the beginning even with the fill in back story one shots and through Eclipse's flooding causing delays. This sidekick death definitely hits harder than A Death in the Family which came out around the same time. Kimota.

Spectacular page. Not having read MM yet, I don't have context but even without that, this is amazing.

Amazing page and such a key in one of the greatest comics. I remember when legendary Miracleman collector Ricky Wong had this page and the sequence of the next two or three pages with MM holding his body. I tried my best to get this from Ricky way back in 2001, but he wouldn't give them up at that time. This is an awesome pickup. Congratulations!
